Anyone for a Christmas Dragon?

Post by Serinde »

Tanya over at OpusAnglicanum is starting a stitch-along for the best Christmas Dragon I've seen in ages. It's wool embroidery on canvas, and uses many different stitches. It promises to be a lot of fun, to judge by her previous stitch-alongs. I'm thinking very seriously of doing this... definitely outside my comfort zone! :D

Anyone game?

It looks lovely - the fabric in the stitched model doesn't look like canvas though :thinks: :thinks: perhaps it's a very fine canvas :-)

I'll pass on this one, pretty though it looks -- too much to stitch anyway, and it's not really my style of design. But I will definitely draw up the magic bench and cheer on anyone who will take it on!

Save a place for me on that bench, Mabel. Go for it Serinde. I'd love to see this one stitched!

That is interesting. I'm debating about joining in. I have a lot of Watercolours I could use to save a bit on the kit price if those would work in place of wool. I'd like to maybe buy the canvas from her though to contribute to her design efforts. I think it's a free chart?

I think I only have about 5 or 6 dragon WIPs at present, so what's one more. :)

  Well, quite!

I was thinking this is a perfect "special birthday year" present for a novelist friend who writes about dragons... and who loves Christmas... :thinks:

That does sound perfect. :) Watercolours would work then? I contacted Tanya and she said she'd send me a bit of waste canvas to practice on too.

Definitely. I'll try and figure out how to make photos work on here again, and I might need your help on some stitches, so I hope you're going to stitch it as well. :) Canvas is purchased and will be winging its way over the pond in time for the start. I think I need to get some stretcher bars though as I usually use Qsnaps.

Tiffany, a good and easy option, I think, for posting pictures is PostImage. Mabel found it and quite a few of us have started using it. I plan on sticking with it for now. So since you are going to do this dragon, you have to find a photo website that will let you post your progress here.

Thanks Carole! I can upload the photos too I think, but I don't want to take up server space, etc. for the forum. Great to know there's a reliable place. If only they didn't keep monkeying with Google Photos, it used to be perfect!

It's nice & I want to start 'real' embroidery some time.
However, with the end date for my two current projects heading off towards 2030, I think I ought to do something about getting the dates a bit nearer, instead. Means I'll give it a pass.

Regards,

Richard.

I won't join in the stitching but will follow this thread with interest. I will sit on the bench with Sally and the others and cheer you both on. :D

Sounds like the perfect present for your friend, Serinde!

Tiffstitch, definitely try it out first - I don't want to put a damper on things but canvas can be quite "hard" and Watercolours is a very soft thread, I'd be worried about it shredding/becoming thinner unless used in very short lengths.
