They are not so small as they seem.

I agree!
A very different take on see/speak/ hear no evil. They make a real relaxing stitching change from that wonderful towel. :applesauce:

All so beautiful Lyudmilla and I love that tablecloth with all the Aussie birds and animals. I love those owls too, just wish there were a few around here instead of those noisy parakeets. :)

The owl theme seems to be very popular right now. I love them. Yours are no exception. I can see why they would be a nice break from your other projects. Thanks for sharing your updates. :D

Lovely owls! The geometric pattern - is it Ukrainian?

Yes, it is Ukrainian. Nowadays there is a trend for combining "geometry" with fruit and/or flowers. But it is a current "creation"- of the last 5 years or so.

This is the map of traditional patterns as they differ from one region to another. I am from Western Ukraine, so "Borshchiv vyshyvankas" and Hutsul cross stitch patterns are ours. Thanks for asking.

What an interesting way to show a map of the country. Sadly I don't think there is any particular design which denotes either Aus or NZ but I could be wrong of course. Both countries 'took over' from indigenous people already there and I know both Maori and Aboriginie peoples had their own native designs.

Wow! Beautiful work! The owls are really cool; the towel is exquisite and your tablecloth is stunning. :applesauce: The map showing all the different stitches is amazing too.

DH and I used to go to concerts of a Ukranian male voice choir (well, 8 men) and they often wore embroidered shirts with those designs, which is how I recognised them. They are called Orpheus, have you heard of them?

They are from Lviv. Their octet was founded in 2000, and is well known here.

Are they still around? I haven't seen any announcements for concerts here in the UK for the past few years. They are incredible, such a glorious sound as they produce! They are the reason why I called two of my designs inspired by Ukrainian whitework "Orpheus" and "Lviv" :-)

You choose the language in the right top and then can see in English the program of their tours for 2017- France, Switzerland.

Funny how a nation can be gifted musically. Personally I dont know a single Ukrainian man or woman who could not sing and sing well at that.
In my native town, small as it is, there have always been a male quartet. Here is the link to the latest one-"Accord". The one from the times of my young years was called "Obriy" and was known all over the USSR. They had fantastic voices and wouls sing at local events. I had heard them quite a few times live- the audience could never have enough of their singing, and it was always unforgetable.
Another male ensamble is Pikkardiyska Tertsia- these have been known as the best ones. Here is the link:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pikkardiyska_Tertsiya

When you hear them, you cant help goose bumps on your skin- so deep, so powerful, so beautiful the voices are.

You are the first person who showed real interest to my country. Thank you, Mabel
