Getting Started on Christmas 2017

I retired in this past summer, and after an autumn of travel and getting settled into a new, temporary home, I've been cross-stitching like crazy. The first item I did was a Christmas stocking for my 93 year old mother-in-law. Her previous stocking was a forty+ year old felt stocking and this past Christmas it was full of holes! This year she'll get a new one. I finished it differently than most of the ones I do, but her family puts LOTS of gifts and candy in stockings, so she needed a big one. I stitched the cross stitch fabric to prequilted cotton, using a machine satin stitch, then finished the stocking. The soft pastels are her favorite colors. I hope she'll enjoy it.

I found this pattern in a book recently and decided I needed yet another piece of Christmas decor (my daughters say the house looks like Christmas threw-up when we decorate!). I've since framed this with a red mat and walnut and gold burnished frame. It was my first foray into stitching on linen, over 2 threads. After I got the hang of it, so it only took me a weekend to stitch.

What a wonderful present for your MIL: The nativity scene is so beautifully stitched, it is a lovely design too.
I really like your Christmas picture. I could never stitch this in only one week-end, especially on linen!

Those are both beautiful projects. I'm sure your mother-in-law will love her new stocking. Who wouldn't love to have that hanging by their fireplace this year?

Another Christmas stocking is stitched! This one was really complex, so it took me 2+ months to stitch. The finishing will happen sometime later, as I need to make a quilt for a new great-nephew, and stitch another stocking.

My oldest daughter will receive a proposal this summer (she doesn't know it!). Assuming she will accept, I've stitched stockings for her soon to be husband and this is for his son. I'll follow with one for his daughter. I did Charles Ross stockings for my husband, my daughters, and myself 30 years ago. I've done his designs for my son-in-law, and the anticipated son-in-law. I think this one will coordinate with them nicely.

This is the son's stocking:

Here are the 30 year old Charles Ross stockings. I hid the names because my daughters have very unique names.

As for a non-Christmas item, I stitched a Welcome Sampler for my daughter's new home:
