Elephant Baby Sampler framed May 10, 2021

Post by rcperryls »

Finally getting started on the Sampler for what will be my first great grandchild. My grandson and his girlfriend are expecting a baby girl in April. I think I posted this in New Stash and Acquisitions:
Image

Had some problems as I was drawing the chart lines (I don't stitch many designs 2 over 2 so my counting took a while for my eyes to focus properly  )
but I now have a start and it is going pretty quickly. I'm stitching on 25ct ivory Lugana fabric.

Thanks for looking. It feels so good to be stitching and posting again. It's been way too long.

Sometimes grandchildren start earlier than you might think they should. But both have finished school and have good jobs and can support themselves and a baby. She has a 5 yo so in some ways I was already a great gramma and his older brother is married to a lovely woman who also came with a child who is now 13. I'm just a very young great gramma.

Haven't worked on it as much as I probably could have but when I do, it goes really quickly. I am enjoying the gentle colors. The biggest issue has been adjusting to "2 over 2", since i usually stitch "1 over 1". Won't be ready by the baby shower, but I'm going to send a photo and also a baby outfit or toy.
I won't have had my second vaccine shot and don't plan on being there. This is one of those times that I wish we had more restrictions on gatherings or that my grandson and girlfriend were more cautious.

Love all the bubbles, they look fun to stitch! I hope you soon get into a 2-over-2 rhythm and it becomes more automatic.
It's a shame you can't go but you know the circumstances best and can assess whether it would be sensible or not.

Love those bubbles!
Best to stay at a distance until the vaccination protects you.
Photo and toy will be well received I'm sure and is the safest thing.

I completely agree! The birth sampler is going to be fantastic, and your number one job is to stay safe. (I was talking to a friend about the vaccine and she said she won’t get it, but if they made it mandatory before she can travel, she would consider it. She said it’s not like she’s traveling anyway. I pointed out to here that in the past four months she has gone to Pennsylvania, Washington (twice), Colorado (twice), and Georgia. She lives in California. Doh!)

Finally have made some progress. This shouldn't be hard, but I have made counting mistakes (I guess I'm not used to stitching 2 over 2) which led to way to many visits from :ribbit:. Back on track!
The photo came up sidewise but since its only the design part I don't think at this point it matters.

Sideways or upside down the sample IS progressing! :whoop: :applesauce:

Can understand your change in thread and fabric counting. I had :ribbit: trouble when working on Aida for the first time in many years! Perhaps because it's Navy Blue!

Got quite a bit done in this past week.

Image

All the rings or bubbles which frame the piece are done. And the outline of the elephant. Took a while to get into the rhythm of over 2, but I didn't have to see the green amphibian at all this week which helped tremendously. Wonder what it will be like when I get back to my HAEDs and it's 1 over 1 again.

Thank you so much for your comments. They really help to keep me motivated.

It’s so cute. I do find it difficult to switch from over 1/over 2 and back again.
