Theoretically, posting pirate bling with Tink is not inappropriate. Even if the inspiration was Jack Sparrow, Captain Hook is the original Disney pirate in my book. Fun fact, on the Pirates ride in Disney, cast members will say "Good Morning" and "Good Night" over the PA system every single day to George. Legend has it that an imagineer died in an accident while building the attraction and that if his ghost isn't acknowledged, the ride will have breakdowns and problems all day. Guests who mock the ride or George often are stuck in a breakdown. Additionally, he sometimes appears in ride photos and on the monitors, but is never seen directly as an apparition. Even more fun fact, if you ever see Captain Jack Sparrow wearing his hat in the park, jump in line immediately - it's Johnny Depp. Due to some weird agreement, Mr. Depp owns the rights to the hat and the face actors at Disney can only wear the red bandanna.

DisneyStitcher, I have a feeling you and I share a lot of the same interests. :D I didn't know the one about the hat on Jack Sparrow. I know right before the last Pirates release, Johnny Depp showed up at Disneyland and did surprise meet and greets with guests dressed in his whole Jack Sparrow attire. I would have loved to have been there. Alas, all our pictures with Jack Sparrow is the one with the red bandanna...and I know we won't be there for the release of the new movie this spring.

Yes, we probably do. The Jack Sparrow hat thing is always under much debate among the Disney fan sites. However, my daughter is pretty good friends with one of the people responsible for character training at WDW. When she was told the hat rumor, she went straight to that person to verify - who only said that he could neither confirm nor deny such a rumor. However, one of her roommates was Mickey/Minnie/Stitch and she verified that she had NEVER seen a Jack Sparrow in costuming with a hat, nor had she seen a hat - only the red bandanna. In the 6 months my daughter worked there, she never saw a Jack Sparrow in the hat. My husband and I went to visit while she working, and when she told us the rumor - I said that I had just seen him in the hat -- she grabbed the camera and scrolled through the pics and sure enough, he was only wearing the bandanna, even though I could have sworn he had the hat on. I've often wondered if the fans that say they've seen Jack Sparrow with the hat and it definitely wasn't Johnny Depp did the same thing I did and just remembered him like you're used to seeing him instead of how he actually appeared. Anyway, it's fun to think it's true. Faith, trust, and Pixie Dust make everything better. Even better, she actually put Neil Patrick Harris and his family on Dumbo. Said he was heartmeltingly delicious!

My newest updates to Tinkerbell can be seen below. I'm making quicker progress lately. I've finished two small sections since my last update. I'm not sure why things are going more quickly, but I'll take it. :D

I've also made some progress on my quilt. You can view those pictures through my blog. I'm almost done with it and am starting to think about my next quilt. Captain America or Tinkerbell fabric? I can't decide.

Captain America! That way you'll be inspired to keep at it in the summer when July 4th rolls around. All the red, white, and blue fabrics will be on sale in the next couple of months. Have you considered incorporating the Tink cross stitch into a quilt (since you said you had some fabric....)? I've done a quilt top using all of the Bob Harrison cats. Unfortunately, it's been a quilt top for more than several years now. I hand quilt, and can't quite work up the nerve to try quilting it by hand but am also deathly afraid to send it off to be machine quilted. I backed all the cross stitch pieces with lightweight muslin to keep the batting from bearding through the aida cloth, so I'd have to be able to get through a sandwich of aida, muslin, batting, and cotton backing. :thinks: I keep saying I'll give it a try when I finish the current project- but I always chicken out and start something else. To make matters worse, I'm planning on doing the same thing with some tiger themed cross stitches when (if) I ever finish them all.

Captain America it is. I'll probably start cutting into the fabric within the week. I bought the fabric at JoAnn's during the Black Friday weekend sales. I think I've got a pattern picked out, I just need to be sure I've got enough yardage. I also hand quilt or tie. I may actually send this one out to be machine quilted when it's finished.

I have been wanting to try to make a quilt using cross stitched squares, but I'm way too nervous for some reason. Do you have a picture of your Bob Harrison cats quilt top? Maybe it would give me some motivation and get me to try it. I keep thinking of doing a trial run with a mug rug or place mat.

I'll take a picture tonight and hopefully my daughter will help me get it onto this site for you. For some reason photo bucket just does not like to cooperate with me. It's really no big deal, straight on blocks with sashing and a border.

Question #1: what block pattern are you thinking of? AND Question #2: did you actually find Captain America fabric by himself or was he included in with the Avengers? I've been keeping my eyes open for C.A. all alone bc one of my daughter's best friends is NUTS about him. If I ever find the fabric, I'm going to make her a pillow case so she can "sleep with him every night." She recently ran into him at Disneyland, I think, (but it might have been Universal) and swears they have a special understanding. I love the silliness of 20-somethings - they are so much more fun than moody teenagers.

Wonderful progress on Tink. She's looking grand!!

AlwaysGoofy,

Here is the Bob Harrison cats quilt top. Forgive the wrinkles, it's been in storage for more than a little while. I also took a picture of the muslin I put behind the Aida to keep the batting from bearding through the holes. All this has the wheels turning for how I can go about quilting this top. :?

:applesauce: :applesauce: I don't know much about quilting, but I do know a beautiful quilt when I see one and this is beautiful. I stitched afghans for many years. I started first because framing was so difficult and secondly because I wouldn't be able to decide what chart to stitch for so many different subjects so I just went with subjects and that worked really well. Still have several in the "on hold" drawer. One in particular is starting to make loud noises.

It's been almost a week since I've been on here. I love, love, love the quilt. It's so beautiful. I can agree deciding on the right quilting might be difficult. My first thought is to border in each of the kitty squares with a SID and leave them be. Then the rest of the quilt could be with a favorite design in the sashing and borders...if you can find some sort of rose design, that would fit perfectly with this beautiful piece.

As for the Captain America quilt, for the time being, I am thinking of using a quilt pattern I found in McCall's Quick Quilts magazine. But I am considering designing my quilt design because I think I need a bigger center of the quilt blocks so I can be sure I can fit a whole Captain America in the block. The design on the fabric is bigger than I remembered. I found the fabric at my local JoAnn's. It is strictly Captain America. They also had a design that is strictly Ant Man (hubby's other favorite Avenger).

I know what you mean about kiddos being fun in their 20's. My son is in his mid-20's and he embraces his inner geekiness now instead of being embarrassed. It's been a lot of fun. He and hubby enjoy their discussions on which Avenger power would they like to have and why.

I've got another picture to post...hopefully, sometime today or tomorrow. It's actually two new sections finished on the Tink picture. Unfortunately, the last picture I took, my camera was acting up. It came up as "corrupt" or some such nonsense.

Thanks for the compliments! I've considered ditch stitching, but the problem is kitty blocks are 9" square - which is a little big to leave unquilted. The last thing I need is for the batting to start lumping up after a wash or two. I feel like my best bet is to outline quilt the kitties with radiating lines to the edge of the blocks and then do the sashing and border normally. However, getting a needle big enough to not bend during quilting leaves me with some mighty big stitches. I've also considered trying to stab my way through it using the aida cloth as a guide. If anyone else has any ideas, I'm open to suggestions.

I can't wait to see what you do with C.A. and Tink. Keep us all posted.

Disney Stitcher, that quilt is AWESOME :whoop: :whoop: :whoop: So delicate and such soft colours.

If it was me I would either long stitch a border on each block or use small quilting stitches in a soft contrasting colour. Take is about 5 or 6 mm out from the edge. As for the borders, yes a rose design would look great but so would a sort of vine design.

I am itching to put together 2 small quilts both with stitched motifs - one is a set of Christmas Angels by Lucy Heaton gifted to me as cards over the years and the other is a set of common birds in 4 seasons - yet to be stitched. However Angel must be finished first. :(

That's a great suggestion for the quilting, Squirrel. I look forward to seeing pictures of your cross stitch/quilt.

Here is my current update for my Tinkerbell piece. It's two new small sections finished. I thought I had taken pictures earlier in the week of the first small finish, but my camera told me otherwise. I have a feeling it was operator error and not camera error. 8)

I have also updated my blog today. I've been receiving some great feedback. Per the feedback I've been receiving, I have made my quilt updates first, stitching updates second, and finally any Disney updates I have. If you want to see the pictures of my latest quilt finish and/or a picture of the Tinkerbell fabric I'll be using on my next quilt top, feel free to check my blog out.

Glad you enjoyed the blog. For the time being, it's just been part of an assignment for a class I am taking. I am enjoying doing it and all the feedback I've been getting from various sources. It will also be a great place to reflect back on the projects I have finished and worked on over the year.

Tink is coming along ever so slowly at the moment. Nevertheless, here is a small update. I am hoping to update at least once a week. I am hoping to get a nice chunk of stitching accomplished this weekend. I'll report back at the end of the weekend, and we'll see what really got done. 8)

I made a small update to my blog. For those who are interested, I added my first set of blocks for the Tink quilt. I also took a picture of my Disney shirt I ordered. I ordered one for myself and one for my niece...my 29-year-old niece. I'll be wearing mine during my upcoming trip to Disney World. I'll be glad to escape the low 40's in Washington for the low 80's in Florida.
