He is stunning! (Will look for those compensating stitches later :-) ) And how useful that you could get the lacking beads free.

You may have said this before, but is he counted or freehand or following a drawing?

Here he is in all his glory. I've lost count of how many beads, but over 1,500 anyway. And seemingly miles of metallic thread. If anyone is interested I can tell you exactly what I used. The flames were Autumn Flame (02034) with an infill of star stitch and (more) compensation stitches with PB14 Bronze. Oh, and I thought you might like to see the doodle cloth again, too. :D (I had fun with ermine stitch...)

Mabel, the original design was from Nancy Spies, Here Be Drolleries. But it was only the outline. And she called it an eagle. It's from a German 16th -century woodcut.

You've performed a beaded miracle with that original woodcut outline - I'd give a lot to show this to the original woodcutter!

And here is what it looks like framed and hung. There are another three birds in this group at the exhibition, with another 6, I think, on the opposite wall. (I think I have a photo of that, so I'll upload it when I find it.) Along with everything else to view, of course. The groupings did point out the variety of techniques all the members used.

Congratulations on such a nice finish. It's nice to see it all hung up. You said there are other pieces in the group. Did you stitch them or were they stitched by others?

That is such a well-suited finish, it looks positively regal! (or should that be imperial?)

They were stitched by others in our branch of the EG. This is one group. Don't have a photo at the moment of the other group.

Thanks, Mabel. Regal is quite a complement! (Not imperial -- only one head, you see.) 8)

some of my favourite birds, oyster catchers (called mudflat magpies in Dutch :-) )

I may be biased, but I do think your beaded beauty stands out!
