Your Dooddle cloth is a great idea Serinde and it really is a work of art all by itself. What do you do with them when you have finished the project? File away for future reference or bin it?

A lovely update on Firebird's threads too but I will resist ordering anything more for a while. - I hope.

Well, after many doodle cloth trials, here is the Firebird's head. Done with metallics: Kreinik 005L and (surprising to me!) 043 Green Confetti blending filament and the stitch was a sort of long and short. Sort of. The black #4 braid had a sort of green "thang" going on (as it were), and nothing looked right until I found the blending filament. (Stash, again.) It has little ticks of pink, blue, gold, turquoise and, of course, green, that I think lifts the black braid. Next worry is whether I should give the Firebird a red eyebrow. Feel slightly like his little red beady eye is lost in the glitter. :thinks:

Why not lay a short red thread over the eye without fastening it off securely. Then it's easily removable if it don't look right!

This Firebird is amazing! :applesauce:

Totally amazing Serinde. Your "playing around" with threads has resulted in a work of art - again. :whoop: :whoop: :whoop:

:applesauce: :applesauce: I love that red eye. Doesn't seem lost to me, but might be because its a close up! I love it!

Here is what's happening with the golden feathers: gold beads ( ), Kreinik #8 gold braid (221) combined with Au ver a Soie Sole Perlée 681 (red, although which specific red, I don't know now -- stash from the Edinburgh exhibition). The thicker braid gives it a bit of height and takes a bit of the vulgarity from those gold gold beads. Beaded outline goes first then I turn the hoop sideways to to the closed herringbone stitch. Works better than I hoped, actually.

That is absolutely stunning bead work. The gold beads are beautiful.

Really fabulous creation. So intricate. Personally, I think single short line stitch above eye may be a good idea to draw people's eye to it & also ass a little bit of definition. Well done on this wonderful creation :applesauce: :applesauce:

This may sound ridiculous, but can I come visit (in summer, this English located in Arizona girl hates the cold) and just watch you work, your firebird is so pretty!!!! Kinda looks like the city of Phoenix old city symbol, they had to change it in recent years. Can't wait to see him finished

Well, thank you! You'd be most welcome, but I suspect that our "summer" is still pretty cold for you -- 75F is a rare and total heatwave! Mostly in the 60sF in summer.

He's coming on soooo slowly, and time is beginning to press. :tizzy:

Lovely updates! I agree with you that the red eye could perhaps do with a little lifting, and with Wendy on the trial eyebrow which seems like a sood way of seeing whether you like the effect. The head feathering is beautiful, I don't care what the stitch is called or whether it's "proper" or "sort of", it works!

The red-and-gold tail is just scrumptious. Gold and silk is always a winning combination :-)

Thanks, guys! Now, here is a bit of an update. I am nowhere near where I should be with this (real life intervening and such), but now the vulgar gold gold beads are finished and I should be able to "colour in" relatively quickly.
