Re: Serindë's Stitching Adventures FRAMED JUNE 2017

Post by Serinde »

Oh, I think you probably are biased... but thanks! :)

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I started and finished the stitching on this for my newest great niece. Just waiting for framing instructions. May have to fiddle slightly with the festoon stitch so that it is even all the way around... it's a bit tricksy, festoon stitch. It was a relief to stitch in white after all those BEADS.

What a gorgeous piece! Is festoon stitch the filling stitch in the middle?

Yes, it is. It is sort of the nuclear option of stitches, because it includes just about everything you can think of, including a spider web. But very effective. It is described well in the Anchor Book of Hardanger Embroidery. (And not to be confused with the same named stitch for pulled work!)

Back to Sugar and Lace. All the stitching is done and now the scary stuff starts. Finishing. Not only do I have to cut away from the buttonhole stitch (ok, that's pretty usual in Hardanger), but then I have to deal with lining fabrics, vilene and..... ribbon! :tizzy: So naturally, I've put it away for a bit so I can have a good think once my worktop is clear. As you do. (Coward, I know.)
