Your duck makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. We raised ducks when I was growing up, and they were so much fun (most of the time). He brings back great memories.

Have finished his left wing now and the backstitch around it. I loved doing the little backstitch feathers. I've also put my initials in very small letters near his foot. I asked my Mum if she wanted me to do it and she said it was fine. I normally do put them on my projects. I think in the past week or so I've stitched more of this than the last 6 months combined! Nice finding your stitchy bug again!

Have been slowly working my way through all the browns on his chest. I will leave the belly until last. Taking my time with it but we'll get there eventually! I'm getting itchy fingers wanting to start on another one now! :tizzy:

Never seen a Mallard that scruffy. Our cats, yes, but not a Mallard.

A few years ago there was a wild female Mallard taking her ducklings down the road outside our house. We tried to shoo her off the road and onto the safer gardens opposite, but not before 7 of the 8 of her ducklings fell down the drain in front of our house and got stuck in the gravel catch bucket (which was full of water). We had to lever the drain cover up and carry each duckling across the road to a very indignant mum who swore at us as only a duck can.

Sorry for that aside.
Back to the stitching. It looks so much fun. Congratulations.

Regards,

Richard.

Perhaps this mallard was fleeing from one of the cats?

I know what you mean about indignant ducks. They always sound as if they are swearing. And they nest in stupid places, generally away from water, and then have to get the little ones to the safety of a pond or such. Glad you were able to rescue those ducklings. I once shepherded a flight of lapwing chicks, with a parent on either end of the chain, down a side road. My job was to act as car blocker until they dodged into a field. Whew. Needless to say, they spent the whole time shouting at me, too. Ingrates.

Your happy, little Mallard is coming along beautifully. His colors match the natural colors of the duck quite well. I'll be looking forward to your next update.

This guy looks like the one at Burg Heidenreichstein in Austria. It was there that for the first time I saw how differently He-duck walks- straight, with the head high in the air.
These designs of the duck and hen and other animals look amazing, and cheer one up. Can't understand the idea of the dots around each figure. If I were younger I would stitch myself this duck, as it is- enough work on the hands without them.

I like your progress, Nicola. Happy stitching!

:applesauce: :applesauce: I love this one as it is true to the colors of the duck but is so whimsical at the same time! We used to have mallards in our yard all the time and every year we had ducklings. There is a creek behind the house and a pond it connects to on one side so it was easy to keep track of how many there were. Generally a few would survive (lots of big turtles in the water too :( ). We don't get as many now, but your piece reminds me of them. Thank you.
