Missed the update at the end of June--sorry about that! It's not going as fast as I'd like, but I am almost halfway through the third page on the final row, so I might be on track to finish in October instead of September. Oh, well!

Here it is so far (sorry about the poor lighting--I'll get a decent pic when it's all done, with lighting all around the edge, but that will involve moving my computer here at work):



I'm hoping to have the next page done by the end of August, so I should have some progress made by then!

My mom is coming to town for a few days (before meeting up with an old friend and flying north for an Alaskan cruise--nice!). I can't wait to show her the progress on this. She hasn't seen it since last September, so it'll be a big change. Also, we're having a get-together with her surviving siblings and in-laws next weekend, and I'm definitely going to be showing this off. I can't remember if any of my aunts are stitchers, although several of them are sewers and my godmother/mom's youngest sister went to school for fashion design, and I know she's into embroidery work, even if it is just on a sewing machine.

Well, I finished this back in October, but I had forgotten to take a photo of the completed project before sending it to my sister and BIL for their Christmas gift. She just sent me a pic this morning, so I can finish off this thread (except for the framed version) with this pic:



It ended taking me 18 months of actual work, for 184,500 stitches in total.

I spent the rest of the year doing small kits for holiday gifts, but last Sunday I just started another megaproject from Scarlet Quince that I'll be posting in this forum soon!

I thank everyone for following me on this huge project--it was the first time I have ever attempted something this big, and I have loved doing it.

I totally agree that this is an heirloom quality piece. I reminds me of a map we had hanging in our family room with the orange shag carpet from the '70s. As a matter of fact, the carpet has changed colors several times since then, but I believe the map still hangs above the TV.
