Re: Mabel's other stitching

Post by Mabel Figworthy »

Here's a little update on the Shisha project - I took it to my stitching group last Monday and added some bits & bobs. I'm mostly happy with the result, but the blue & white partial daisy will be taken out, I'm not satisfied with it :-( so I will try a different stitch. There's a bit more about this on my blog, with links to Mary Corbet's excellent site showing the ones I want to try.

Will add some more sequins & stuff to eventually make it into something roughly circular :-)

Love the surface stitching, especially the flower with the button centre. Mary Corbet is a great resource for stitching of all sorts, and she's explored the whole shisha thing pretty thoroughly.

Two little trial shishas to see which to add to the sampler:

Definitely both beautiful but personally I would go for the blue one. Well Done Mabel. :applesauce: :)

:applesauce: :applesauce: Absolutely gorgeous!! I think they are both perfect. Since its a sampler why do you have to choose between them. I'd use both! Or compromise with the green design and the blue thread?

For reasons of space only, Carole! I'm trying to keep the whole design inside a rough circle. In the end I've gone for the blue one, in that blue thread, but more open (less densely stitched) and around a smaller mirror. Pictures soon.

Shisha Daisy, eh? Wow so pretty.

:applesauce:

What is the fabric your using to stitch it all to?

The class sampler is on shot silk - greenish but with a reddish glow when seen from an angle - backed with cotton. The two trial shishas were done on some lime green fabric I once bought for finishing a cushion (you may just remember the kingfisher I did years ago), backed with another fabric from the sewing box that by the look of it dates from the time of DH's grandmother, whose box I believe it was :-)

I was just thinking, one shisha daisy with a stem and some leaves added would make a lovely birthday card. Must try a few of those in different sizes...

This is getting confusing! I've been posting the Shisha sampler here because it isn't my design (strictly speaking it isn't a design at all :-)), but my experiments with it should probably be in my other thread :thinks: :thinks:

Oh well, first things first: Here is the finished sampler

I've also managed some work on the bee, but not much to show for it (chipwork is very slow...). I'll post a pic when the progress is actually visible :-)
