The boot is still unfinished, I'm afraid, but I did get some goldwork done over the Bank Holiday weekend - yay! The Jacobean flower is now finished   . I had a few hiccups along the way (one of them described in more detail on FoF) but I'm pleased with how it's come out.

No goldwork done at all over the past few months I'm afraid, so the boot is still languishing. I've been experimenting with this that and the other, and anyway haven't had much energy to pick up anything to complicated. Still working on the Tree of Life leaves, but this was an in-between project because I needed something to take to London where I was meeting some Canadian cousins at whose wedding I was 40 years ago, and whom I hadn't seen since. Great fun and we had a lovely time, and the stitching was nice to do on the train. It thent ook me two weeks to actually finish it...

It's one of Kelly Fletcher's Bloomin' Marvellous freebies; I'd stitched this before in wool on twill, ignoring the petal fillings. This time I did use one or two of her suggestions (the lattice and the two-coloured bullion knots) but otherwise just did my own thing as the fancy took me.

It's worked using Vicky Clayton silk which I think has been discontinued, and a Gumnut silk/wool blend (the green). It includes heavy chain, feathered chain, whipped chain, knotted stem stitch, Mountmellick stitch, a knotted loop stitch of my own devising, and several others. I really enjoyed this :-)

How's this for a view while you're stitching :-) ? Not that I had a lot of time to look out of the window - a one-on-one workshop takes all your concentration!

Image

And here's what I managed to get done - I'd specifically asked to learn about soft string padding, so that's what we mostly concentrated on. I'm hoping to finish this the weekend after next (this weekend we're seeing the in-laws)

Beautiful Mabel. What a view. Were you are the Royal School of Needlework at Hampton Court. I would loved to have done a 3 year course of theirs. I don't have the funds now I have the time but that happens to a lot of people. Glad I took up x stitch again when I retired :D

Look forward to seeing this completed when you have time to put it on here. You are certainly very busy :D
