Not clever, I'm afraid - pure luck
. And yes, it is herringbone. Ideally I would do the herringbone first, then stem stitch the outlines, which is what I'll write in the instructions.
I did put in another little addition - this was very much part of the original design but I then left it off because for a card it wasn't practical. But as this one is too big for a card anyway, and will just be kept in my stitched model folder, I thought I'd add it to see if the idea worked. Here it is with steam coming off the hot liquid of choice inside, courtesy of some organza ribbon:

The real problem is that the inside of the mug isn't all black and crusty with tea residue.
Otherwise, perfect.

Richard.

These were completed a few weeks ago but I've not been around much
It's the same old Wildflower Garden
but I used it to try out two different fabrics, medium cotton canvas and cotton duck. There will be a FoF about the comparison some time in the future.

really gorgeous, esp the one on blue fabric. Very nicely worked, you have a really wonderful gift being able to do this variety stitches so neatly - must take a lot of practice but so worth it, all your hard work certainly pays off
