Mabel's designs - closed thread

Post by Mabel Figworthy »

I've decided to split my SAL thread into two, because it's original name wasn't really accurate :-) - it wasn't all Hardanger, and it wasn't all mine (in the sense of being my designs). So here is a thread for things that I designed myself, whether Hardanger or other techniques.

And here is the first finish in that category, Orpheus I. Finished last week, but we had a big family weekend away so I didn't have time to take and post pictures before.

Image

It still needs ironing and stretching as my roller bar frame pulled it into a rectangle :-(. Orpheus is inspired by Ukrainian whitework, and I designed it in two variations, this square and a rectangular version a bit like a band sampler almost. That one is now framed up ready for stitching:

Very elegant and beautiful Mabel. Love the fabric and threads for the next one - soft green is my favourite colour - so restful.

What?!?

Hardanger in a colour that isn't WHITE?

Just wait 'til the police pick you up. Then you'll be sorry.
@rotfl:

The peach one looks quite spectacular, I must say, though I do wonder what it'd be like with a contrasting colour.

Regards,

Richard.

Richard, I haven't tried it on this one but Lviv, which was also inspired by Ukrainian whitework, I stitched in very very pale blue on very very pale blue, as well as in a quite strongly variegated thread on cream. I liked both, but they are definitely very different!

Wow. They look to be completely different designs.
Must admit I really like the variegated version.

:applesauce: :applesauce: Absolutely stunning, Mabel!! Did I tell you that when my sister was here in the fall and saw the SAL pieces and a few others I have done, she wondered why I would stitch anything else. Made me wonder too.

Working hard on finishing the buttonholing on Floral Lace - the stitching was finished nearly a year ago but I still haven't got them properly finished! I've decided not to allow myself any other stitching until I've finally got them done; there are 18 squares, and so far I've buttonholed 13. Only five to go, yay

I did actually allow myself a project in between - some friends from our Bible study group were welcomed into church membership yesterday morning so some cards were called for! Petite Treasure Braid, backstitch, star stitch and the shape of my little Hardanger cross, and hey presto :-)

If anyone would like to stitch it, the chart is available as a Freebie on my website.

:whoop: :whoop: WOW Mabel, what a beautiful elegant way to use the lovely cross design. Must have a think about that for the Christmas lunch cards for this next Christmas. Really really gorgeous Mabel.

I often feel the same way. I find doing hardanger more relaxing andyet challenging than cross stitch and once I start on doing 1 for a needed card or something I want to keep going in finitum. (?sp)

Sally, if you shorten the bottom leg of the cross to be the same as the others it would become more of a star shape (and also a little bit quicker :-)) which might be more suitable for your Christmas card project?
