Great coaster, Mabel. :applesauce: You even managed to get beads into it, clever!

I have to use glasses +magnifier+ light to see my stitching these days! But with your new lighting and glasses you are well away!! :D

No beads Wendy, not in a coaster - these are 2mm sequins; fiddly but useful!

Unexpected visitor last night, so I didn't finish the RIC alternative, but here is what I've done so far (haven't poked in all the ends yet; only the front ones)

Love the colour scheme on this one Mabel and it is looking great. It will be interesting to see it finished.

Mabel, thanks for the info re Delft I will give it some thought over the coming weeks. Angel is priority and not going as fast as I had hoped either. Ggrrrrrrrrr

Holy cow, you are really talented!!! I am new to the forum so I'm still clicking around looking at everything you guys do.... just incredible. That variegated hardanger on the 1st page is spectacular. Your flower gem circular design would be perfect for a jar lid, like we were talking about on the mini-projects thread!

Thanks Michelle! I will be putting out a chart pack for the various Floral Gem designs, but I'm sure you can make up your own - they're pretty freestyle :-)

I've decided to pair the SAL alternative with another design, both using Rhodes hearts and gold sequins; I had some ideas in the middle of the night, and one evening when we had to stop the programme we were watching because a friend phoned to ask DH's advice about something.

Originally I wanted to use two-coloured nutmeg stitches, but if this is going to be a separate pair I want them to use fillings that aren't used in RIC, so I've been working ona variation on square filet. Just sketches so far, pics of actual stitching hopefully to follow soon :-)

Also working on a pair of counted designs called Old & New, and based on fireworks (very very stylised though - it doesn't really look like fireworks at all, that's just what inspired me :-) ). Here is the start of the first one, red gold and green on black; the thread is Petite Treasure Braid, and the stitch is double cross stitch.

Both of them are really interesting and I am looking forward to seeing the finished motifs. What a wonderful imagination you have Mabel to be able to 'think up' all these variations. Very inspiring.

I like the way you think, Mabel. :D Also those little sketches show just how you get the design together and there was I thinking that you did it all on the computer!

I tried a design of fireworks once, it was all in Kreinik threads and had very little in the way of cross stitch, just lots of straight threads stitched in different directions....never finished it!!!

I started out with long stitches as well, Wendy, but somehw it just didn't gell. Then I decided it would be an impression of the fireworks I remember so vividly rather than an accurate photographic picture (I leave those to Richard :-) )

Yay    ! Heart's Treasure 1 is finished, and the midnight scribble of two-coloured square filets worked as I intended (which is a relief :-) )

Burning the midnight oil, Mabel??

Well it's paid off this time.....Wonderfully well! I guess you'll have done those 2 colour square filets in two stages? Once going one way in one colour for half the stitch then repeating the process going back?

:applesauce: :applesauce: No end yet to your talents!!!

Yes, two journeys (well, four in total) - started with dark, doing the top "V" shape of five partical square filets, then fasten off and do the next quarter with light, then dark then light.

I might try four-coloured ones - if you have them in straight lines instead of diagonals you could do each direction (up down left right) in a different colour. Bit psychedelic perhaps :-)
