My first Chatelaine design.

Post by angie »

Hi everyone.

I have just received my first Chatelaine design, Butterfly Lace which looks fascinating to do with such lovely colours etc. I bought the full kit which included the 28ct fabric and I am just wondering if anyone has done this design in 14ct Aida? I have noticed that there are lots of specialist stitches and I am not sure if you can do these on the Aida. If anyone could advise me I would be very grateful.

Is there any over 1 work in it? If there is then you can't do it on Aida.

I have never done one before so that's all I can give you. Hope someone can answer for you :)

I'm doing Herbularius at the moment, and I definitely would NOT attempt it on Aida. There are way too many fractional stitches.
One of our members (Mrs Milkybar Kid) stitched this design (very beautifully I have to add  )
Here is the thread for her progress. You should find it very interesting :D . I'm looking forward to seeing you start yours.

ETA Looking at Mrs MBK's pictures, the butterflies are stitched over one, so you'd have to do it on 28 count not Aida.

Hi Jo.
Thanks for your help and advice. I shall do as you advise and use 28ct as ordered with the kit, really looking forward to starting the Butterfly Lace although I shall have to wait to start it as I am busy selling and moving homes at the moment. I have looked at your Herbularius and it is fabulous, well done I shall watch with interest. :applesauce:

Hi everyone

Its now September and I have just started my first Chatelaine, Butterfly lace. I have had it stashed away since last November but haven't had the time to start it until now. I lost my lovely Mum last December at the age of 86 who also loved her crosstitch. I have also sold and moved home since then and we have been busy sorting things out with that too and we have just recently come back after having a well deserved wonderful holiday in Canada so I finally feel as though I can now get back to my hobby.

I started the Chatelaine a couple of days ago and was totally baffled by where to start trying to enlarge the chart :tantrum: I gave up with that so I now use Good notes on the Ipad, another challenge there too as I had to work out the app too :tizzy:. I am really enjoying what I have done so far and if I can remember how to post a picture on here I will do.

If anyone has any advice on doing this Chatelaine I would be grateful it may help me not to make too many errors.

Hi Angie, as you know I've stitched this one and finished several other Chatelaines, so if you have any queries just shout! I always stitch from my IPad - it is sooooooo much easier especially for Chatelaines!

Hi Amanda. Thanks for your reply, can I ask you which way do you sew on the beads, do you angle them or attach them horizontally not sure if that makes sense?
Thanks.

Of course you make sense, it is a very common question too - so you are not alone! With Chatelaines the beads are stitched on straight - either with the hole horizontal or vertical to the fabric, which way is personal preference (I think I stitch mine vertically). The beads are not angled (as you would do with Mill Hill beads usually), they probably would not fit on the fabric stitched that way and as they are cylindrical they just look better lol! With the bicones however, I've always angled them, again go with what you feel looks right to you. I probably have some close ups of beading somewhere if you wanted to look (on Flickr or Photobucket) - just google Mrs Milkybar Kid, any stitching related photos will be mine lol!

I don't stitch Chats either (way way too many beads for someone who hates beading) but I love watching them being stitched. Remember this thread Posting Pictures into a Thread will explain how to do that. Can't wait to see your updates!
