I think fraying might work rather well with this one, as it'll show up so well against the red; what do others think?

Thank you all. :D Fraying it is then ...so now I need to know HOW to do it. (Stares hopefully at computer awaiting instructions).
I seem very good at fraying the aida when stitching, so maybe I'll find I'm a natural at it!

Practice on an offcut.
Cut to size, allow for fraying
Do one block row at a time, piddle out the end with a needle if necessary.

Nah! Don't be A-Frayed!!

As Mags says use a gash piece first and the Eye end of the needle. Tease it out gently, turn the piece clockwise and do the next side turning as you go. Then make sure you have taken the same number of blocks from each side!
There!! Clear as Solway Mud!

  @ Wendy!

Hmm, ok, so when I 'cut to size' How sort of far do I cut from the design before I start to fray?

Dont want to get too near (just incase of accidents!!) but got to be near enough hasn't it.

It depends. :thinks:

How big is the card
Is the card square or oblong
Are you wanting the stitching bit to be square
Are you adding any peel offs
how big a fringe do you want
etc etc.

You can fray from as little as one block away but I don't recommend it. I think I would leave say 5 blocks around the stitching and add on however many for fraying, which could be 1, 2 or 3. I personally wouldn't do more than 3, I think 2 is nice.

Chuck it over here and I'll do it

I'd happily chuck it over. hehe,

Once I've done one I'll probably like it and do all my cards like that  but it's the first one ... scary!

and of course, there's the Grandparents one to do as well when it's finished.

Think probably square shape, not made any decisions about it really, thought I'd fray it first then find some card to suit ... typically me, do it all without any real plan in me brain.

*Throws both over to Mags* Heeeelllpppppp!

Oh go on, I dare you.

I once was doing a bookmark and a friend was watching as I was cutting - she asked in horror what I was doing and I say I was fraying it so that it didn't fray

Ok, it took me 'til this morning to pluck up the courage to do it ...

But here it is, i haven't got it on the card yetm but laid it against it, so you can see the colour at least.

http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh23 ... CT0149.jpg

I have just noticed i left out a bit of backstitch on the stool. Can't decide whether to do it or leave it now.

No  I thought it was going to be really fiddly and start to fray as I frayed it, but it was really easy! ;lol: So now I have frayed the new grandparents card too.
I'm off to add a picture of that to Mabels small projects threads now.

Yep, you're right Wendy. :D
I love the look of it as well. Makes a lovely change from only doing the aperture cards.

Thanks to you all for all the advice, I probably wouldn't have done it otherwise.
