8/10 for me...hopefully get a good draw tomorrow...great game so far..I have read the Lord of the Rings many times and it is still one of my favorite set of books.

I'm making no excuses,
It's all been rather fraught,
I've not been checking onto here

I agree - obviously Jo is as clever with the pen as with the needle.

Okay kids - we're getting close to running out of numbers. Today we have:

1. The History of Russia, Nicholas Riasanovsky
This is one of the few text books I kept from my college years (a LONG time ago). It was written when Russia was synonymous with Soviet Union, so part of it is outdated now, but it gives a detailed history of a fascinating people. My poor text book is highlighted like crazy (I used to get carried away with the pretty colors ).


27. Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury
It's a classic - if you haven't read it, do. If you have read it, read it again. I love it when I read a book for the second or third time and still get something new out of it.

Whoo hoo!! I'm getting closer.

I loved Fahrenheit 451. I read it in middle school, high school and then again in university. It was so good, and I really liked reading it. Maybe I should go read it again.

9 for me as well. I guess it's time for me to read Farenheit 451.

4. Undaunted Courage, Stephen Ambrose
If you want to read about the exploration of the Louisiana Purchase, this is a good place to start. It details the Lewis and Clark expedition west to the Pacific Coast of the United States. In 1803, the United States purchased the Louisiana Territory from France, and Thomas Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark on a mission to study and map the land. The Louisiana Territory included parts of 15 current states, including part of Colorado (so thank, you, France), and the beautiful state of Montana. On one of my several visits to Great Falls, Montana, I went to the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center on the Missouri River (so pretty) - very interesting. (And that reminds me, I bought a kit there - I should find it and add it to my to-do's.)

11. Travels with Charley, John Steinbeck
Steinbeck wrote of his adventures with his French Poodle, Charley, as they traveled around the country together. It's a fun story and gives a glimpse into parts of America we don't always see. I haven't read a lot of Steinbeck, but of those I have read, this is my favorite - probably because it has a dog in it. I've read it several times and love it more each time.

It looks like this is going to be super close - I work tomorrow so probably won't be posting numbers until around 1 or 2pm, Mountain Time. I want to make it fair for all time zones - wondering if there's a better time to post?

Whenever is good for you. I'm with the kiddo till 8 pm at soccer practice tomorrow ( ), but get off work at 3 eastern. Do what you need.

8. The Lord of the Rings, J. R. R. Tolkien
What can I say? Hobbits and elves and battles - one of my all time favorite stories. When I was in England in 2004, we went to Eagle and Child - the pub where Tolkien and Lewis and other hung out. Way cool!


22. Men to Match My Mountains, Irving Stone
A slight deviation from his normal historical novels, Stone's book is about the American west and why people migrated west. It's not a detailed history, but does provide some insight into the Mormons in Utah, the gold rush, the Donner Party, and more. I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in the westward expansion of the United States.

We have a winner - congrats Linda Rose. I think it's her first Bingo game (is that correct?). I won on my first game, too.

I've had one other PM calling Bingo and I'm thinking about adding a random drawing for second place. That's not usually done, but it's my game, right? So, anyone else with Bingo? PM me to get in the drawing and you might win something from my stash.

And in case anyone is interested, here are the last two books (no points for these, but just in case you care...)

The Only Road North, Erik Mirandette
The author was a cadet at the Air Force Academy and took a leave of absence to do humanitarian work. He, his brother, and two friends decided to travel north from South Africa to Egypt, and in Cairo they were among the victims of a suicide bomber. Erik's brother, Alex, was killed and Erik was seriously injured but fought his way back, emotionally and physically. It's a hard story to read, but also an uplifting one.

If You Really Loved Me, Ann Rule
Ann Rule wrote many "true crime" books, but this is the only one I've read. It's about a murder that took place in Garden Grove, California, and the police investigation that brought the killer to justice. This is how the Library Journal describes it: "(It) tells the story of computer businessman David Brown, a "complete sociopath" who manipulated his 14-year-old daughter, Cinnamon, into murdering his 23-year-old wife in Orange County, California in 1985. Brown collected some $800,000 in insurance money and married his wife's 17-year-old sister while Cinnamon went to the reformatory." It reads like a novel but trust me, it's true. I worked at the Garden Grove Police Department at the time and this is a great retelling of the case. I was reading the reviews for this book awhile ago and had to laugh at one reviewer who said the characters just weren't believable. Ha! They're real people!

Thanks Debby. Yes this was my first time playing and lucky for me I got home from work early today - a most unusual occurance.

The game was good fun Debby. I really enjoyed hearing about the books on your shelf. I will be finding some of them at my library for sure.

I guess I will be checking out the rules a little more closely before I enjoy the privilege of hosting the next game. I hope to see all of you join in the fun once again.
