Bumping this one up as a few haven't sent me their numbers yet. Has everyone been as busy as I've been this week?

Okay, we've got all the players' numbers so here we go. All 30 books (and many more) are on my bookshelves and I'll include a little description of each. Ready?

12. The Innocents Abroad, Mark Twain
This is probably my favorite Twain book, a story about a group of Americans who tour Europe and the Holy Land. I think it's hard to find an author who can rival Twain for simple story telling that never goes out of style. (I also highly recommend Twain's Roughing It.)

29. Decision at Delphi, Helen MacInnes
Back in the 70's (yes, I know, you probably weren't even born yet!), I read every one of MacInnes' espionage novels...there's usually a guy and a girl (and no Shades of Grey) and a spy. I'm trying now to reread as many as I can. I wonder if they'll be as much fun and as exciting as I thought they were back then?

No matches on yesterday's numbers? Here are the numbers for today:

16. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass, Lewis Carroll
I'm sure most of us have seen the animated movie and others, but if you haven't read the books, you really should. Carroll had a very strange mind.

17. The Chronicles of Narnia, C. S. Lewis
I really love books that can be read by children and by adults, each getting a different message.

I never even saw the post from yesterday, but I didn't have those anyway, but :whoop: for today. 2/10 for me now.

I agree about Lewis Carroll. We have a copy of the complete works and its even stranger when you get to some of the other stories and poems he wrote. My DH could recite Jobberwocky by heart“Beware the Jabberwock, my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun. The frumious Bandersnatch!” I get lost after the first sentence.

Also read and loved the Narnia Books. and enjoyed the movies too!

I think I knew all along that I didn't really know how to play this. I had a match yesterday, none today. Do I need to say what my match was in this thread? Am I too late to let you know?

Love the bookshelf angle. You are a well read woman. I love hearing what others have thought about these books. Makes me want to go to the library!

It's up to you if you want to share what numbers matched. Some people share just how many they have so far and some also make comments, like you just did, Linda. The only hard and fast requirement is to pm me when you get all ten numbers.

I'm glad you're enjoying my book list - I was hoping it would be interesting. I've always been an avid reader and always told my son that books are our friends - he reads more than I do.

This is a great idea for Bingo. I'm going to use it for some book recommendations!
I had a Lewis Carroll poem book when I was younger and I could recite a few of them! The Walrus and the Carpenter was one of my favourites. I still read my old copy of Alice in Wonderland :) I loved the Chronicles of Narnia too; I'd love all of them to be made into films eventually. The Magician's Nephew was my favourite :D

No numbers yet! But always loved reading about each one for all these bingo games! I love books but other than Narnia, haven't read those. I have to say, Narnia didn't impress me as much as it seems to have impressed everyone else. I think if I had read it as a child, I'd have had a different feeling from them.

Well I have 1/10 so far. Not to bad a start. I remember I use to love reading the Chronicles of Narnia when I was younger. Like you said there was a lot of undertones and meanings in his stories.

I think I was in my early 20's when I first read the Chronicles of Narnia, and it seems like each time I read the books, I get something else out of them. (Orrrrr....my memory is shot and I'm just getting the same stuff over and over again. :-))

I first read the Chronicles of Narnia to my children, who now read them to their own children. I love the way it connects the generations. I love seeing the looks of amazement and then pure delight on the faces of my grandchildren when they discover I know something about what they are reading. We have also watched some of the video presentations of the books. Both make for great discussions on issues that we are all facing every day. Really a great series.

Okay, day three - here you go:

3. The Politics of Inertia, Keith Ian Polakoff
A book from my college years, it's the story of the election of 1876 and the end of Reconstruction (US history, for you "foreigners"). The author, Polakoff, was one of my history professors - one of the best. It's not a easy, quick read, but if that time in US history interests you, you might want to try to find the book. I don't even know if it's still in print - probably not.

19. Darling Buds of May, H. E. Bates
I think there was a BBC tv series based on the book, but I haven't seen it. The book is a fast and fun read about the amusing and somewhat eccentric Larkin family and the tax inspector who enters their lives and doesn't want to leave. I haven't read any of Bates' other books, but I'd like to.
