"Winter Is Coming" BINGO -- Winner: JazzeyBear!

Winter is not my favourite season, but it comes in a close second behind spring. There is such an incredible amount of nostalgia at this time of year that I couldn't pass up an opportunity to host a bingo showcasing images that are beautiful, fun, and generate all manner of memories of past years' winter holidays. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Winter Solstice, Hanukkah, etc., winter tends to be a season of celebration and appreciation.

'Winter is Coming' is also the motto of House Stark in a brilliant series of novels by George RR martin called Song of Ice and Fire. The fifth book in the series was released this year, several years after the fourth was released (I HAVEN'T READ IT YET... NO SPOILERS!!!), and HBO picked up the series and completed the first season of Game of Thrones over the summer. Even though it's in the genre of 'sci-fi/fantasy', the novels are so incredibly well written and the story is so real and captivating that I've known countless readers who had never picked up a book in the genre, find that they love the books be Martin. I highly recommend them, and if I don't get a copy of the latest book (A Dance with Dragons) for Christmas, I think I'll just start reading the whole series over again.

What an interesting line up, it is cooling me down nicely from our 32+c degree heat.

It's good to see that some of you are reading or have read books in the Song of Ice and Fire series! This bingo will have more to do with winter in general, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to plug my favourite novel series.

I hope a lot of people sign up for this round. I know it starts right after a major US holiday (and the biggest shopping day of the year for US residents -- a day I lock myself in the house!), but even if you miss a day or three of bingo drawings, you'll still be able to catch up.

I live in a very 'wet' area of the Northwest US, which means we don't get much in the way of snow. I LOVE snow, so when we do get it, I'm very happy. This bingo will help with all that snow we don't get here.
