Completely OT puffin
A friend told me about a website called Unsplash with free high-resolution images (pople just ask for credit/acknowledgement if you use their pictures) and when I went to have a look the very first picture I saw was this gorgeous puffin - do click on it to enlarge to its full size, the detail is astonishing! Edited: actually you only seem to get the full full size if you download it and then look at it fully zoomed in. End of edit
And even if you're not into puffins, there are many, many wonderful images there.

So amazing it looks as though it will jump out of the photo.

I am still smiling at those wonderful pictures.
Re: Completely OT puffin
I just saw a video on FaceBook about an orphan puffin they found with a broken beak, they fixed it.

Puffins are lovely, one of my favourite seabirds
Did anybody know that a Baby Puffin is called a Puffling?

Isn't it just?
I only found out myself recently, we saw a book in an RNLI shop called Percy the Puffling I think it was and I mentioned it to my Mum as she is a keen bird watcher and is our go to for all bird questions and she said that was the name of a baby Puffin!

I love the wide variety of things I learn from the forum. Above and beyond the infinite information about all things stitching!

They are mine too! I saw them first flying off the Farne Islands then closer at hand on Shetland.
I am an official Puffinophile (the name for a Puffin fancier )
I have Puffin things all over the house. I even have a puffin wine cooler, a clock with Puffins instead of numbers , Puffins on mugs, a tea cosy in the shape of a Puffin. You name it I've got it!
My avatar was made by my D/H designed from a puffin glove puppet I bought in Shetland.

Re: Completely OT puffin
That sounds amazing, loving the term Puffinophile!!!! We don't have much puffinalia (Memorabilia but of Puffins!) in the house but when we moved in here my Mum did buy us a key holder with a Puffin design! We've just bought my Mum a plush Puffin for Christmas too!!!wendywombat wrote:

Re: Completely OT puffin
Have to bring this up from the archives!!
Puffarazzi!!
http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-hig ... s-42138579" target="_blank
Just read this on the BBC web pages. I saw an article some while back where some Puffins were tagged to see how far they have to travel to get food.
I hope they will be able to adapt to finding an alternative to the sand eels that is the mainstay of their diet and not end up so endangered because they cannot adapt!
Look at Pandas...only eat bamboo shoots!! No wonder they are declining!

At least puffins don't seem disinclined to reproduce!
