How to put a pattern on a tablet...?

Post by poppy »

We have only one computer at home, on which my DH works most of the time on weekdays.
Well, our three grown-up children decided to club together and buy me a tablet for Christmas! :whoop:

Of course, the first thing, which came to my mind, is that a tablet might be useful for my cross stitch! :D
I saw on some of the photos on the forum, that some of you have your working pattern on your tablet and can "mark" a stitch when it is done.
How do you do that?
I am obviously not computer orientated

What a lovely present for your family to give you. It is going to make life that bit easier for you Helene. I am sure several people will know how to programme it for you.

There are certainly PDF readers on the web for tablets. On my Android 4 tablet I use the 'Google' pdf reader. Small & simple it reads the pdf's that I've generated (and thousands more - I have 2400 out of copyright books in pdf format downloaded from http://www.archive.org). So, if you can get the chart in pdf format you can read it on the tablet.

The question is if you want to do more with it, like mark it up etc. If there are packages that will do it, I don't know of them, sorry. Maybe others will help.

Regards,

Richard.

I use Goodnotes on my iPad. It works great, and I'm sure apps for Android do the same. For paper charts, I scan them as PDFs and save them to my Dropbox or other cloud service, then open them in Goodnotes. Charts that are already PDF I just save to the cloud.

I usually send the pdf file to my gmail account, which is an extra backup also and open it in Goodnotes on my iPad. I have pretty much given up using paper charts. One thing I especially like is that on very detailed designs, I can chart a "path" of stitching as I am a cross country stitcher and this helps me make the best use of thread.

I use Goodreader (the latest update cost a princely £4 to make it compatible with the newest iOS; previously it was free) and then I import a pdf via Dropbox (which is free). Goodreader is very flexible and I can mark up the pdf in various colours, make notes, all that good stuff. The only downside? It doesn't half use up battery life -- all those lit pixels suck up the juice, I guess.

I use GoodNotes on my iPad and have done for the last five years (although I stitch rarely these days!). For paper charts I just take a photo of the paper chart and import that to GoodNotes - much easier than faffing about with a scanner :D !

 Hello Amanda! It is very good to hear from you. I am sorry to hear that you are still doing very little stitching since you most certainly stitch beautifully, but it very good to know that you check in once in a while. I hope that you and your family are all well.
