Cross country

Does anyone do cross country cross stitch on a picture that is NOT fully covered ?

I do cross country on just about everything. Sometimes I try the 10x10 block stitching but I end up going cross country.

I do too.
This picture was cross countried over black:

The non-black parts of my wife's hair is separated from the main part of her face, and there are a number of totally isolated stitches.

This one, in the outer fringes, is not solidly stitched, either:

It is also cross countried.
