Clydesdales - totally off topic

Post by fccs »

The Budweiser Clydesdales are home, which means I went to see them (three times). The last time was Wednesday and I caught them out in their pasture. Here are a few (!) of the tons of pictures I took.

I love those horses. We lived in Virginia when I was a child, not too far from Busch Gardens. At the time they kept the Clydesdales (at least some of them) in a barn within the complex. At certain times you could visit them - to this day I cannot get over their size.....talk about behemoths! Thanks for sharing the pics!

Aren't they just.....  :horse: :horse: :horse:

I love those 'heavy horses' and their fluffy feet! 8)

There was a Shire horse called Scotty (after Star Trek!) where I kept my Highland pony. They were friends and would get into mischief together. They found their way into the orchard one day!!
When Scotty was sold he went to a trekking centre in the NE of the UK....then when I sold Hamish the same person bought him too. She told me that when Hamish was let out into the field Scotty saw him, let out a huge neigh and Thundered across the field to meet him!! At least they spent the rest of their days together. :D :D

What a wonderful set of pictures and oh it does bring back memories.
As a child we used to see the horses and a wagon sometimes in our streets - this was in the 1940's and war time and some people used horse and cart for deliveries rather than motorised vehicles. I always rushed out when I heard them and Grandad was out there with his bucket and spade too - just in case. He loved his garden. :)

For their size, heavy horses tend to be very gentle.
I tend to prefer the personalities of predators (cats in particular) but heavy horses are lovely. Never really got on with normal horses - they have a brain and are determined to use it, but have never really left behind their prey reflexes, so get spooked fairly easily.

Regards

Richard.

They are't always home but let me know when you're out here - you can still kidnap me. :-)

That story makes me happy!

I go as often as I can when they're home and it's hard to leave them. I could just watch them for hours when they're in the pasture. A few years ago, to celebrate Budweiser's anniversary in Fort Collins, they hitched up the wagon and actually made beer deliveries downtown. It was so much fun to watch!!!
