Spammers?

Post by Podolyanka »

I have noticed there are lots of spammers registered on the forum. The latest two "members" are Russians advertizing VIP presents and Volvo servicing in Moscow:

Funny enough, the so called "SkottKip" (the 1st one) put Ukraine as his country, while being from Moscow- Russia. Do the admins do anything about such "members" here?

In the last 2 weeks the Fountain Pen Network has had lots of Russian porn spammers register from the oogmail.com domain, with multiple registrations very quickly, then at daily intervals the spammer puts up NSFW images with one upload per account. After 5 days of this the whole oogmail.com domain had to be blocked.

New tactics that are something to be aware of.

Regards,

Richard.

Oh yes we do!!!! We used to get lots of spammers threads appearing on the forum and members would use the "report" icon to alert the moderator, but most don't get through now. They might join, :tantrum: but unless they try to post something the only place they do show up for most members is on our Home Page where it shows "our newest member". Before a new member can make a post visible to the whole forum it has to be approved by one of us mods. And it is usually pretty obvious when the post has nothing to do with cross stitching. You lucky guys don't get to see some of the interesting things advertised  and the filters that Alex has do a really good job. Occasionally we have to ask him to plug a hole, but we don't get many spam floods. Thank you Alex! And thank you Lyudmila, for alerting us. I am going to edit your post (hope you don't mind) and remove the links to their websites.

Thank you, Richard and Carole, for your quick answers. I am glad the spammers have no chance with this forum, because they do "kill" some really good sites. And no, I don't mind my post being edited by you, Carole
