What letter is this monogram?

Post by gottastamp »

I acquired this cross-stitched monogram and want to give it away or sell it, but I can't decide what letter it is - G? L? C? After searching many images of cross stitch alphabets I am hoping someone on this forum can tell me.

 Hello and welcome to the forum! I personally think it is the letter L, but I can't say for certain. It is beautiful!

I was going to say G, but as a person who's name starts with G, I can say it probably wouldn't appeal to me. Not enough curl on the top. I'd go with L too!

That reminds me of a Gaelic "L."

I'd say 'L' too.

I suppose it's closest to an L but it doesn't really look like any of the letters in the Western alphabet! Could it be Cyrillic/Hebrew/Arabic/Korean/any other alphabet?

Actually it looks closest to a reversed J... my theory is that someone stitched this from a mirror image photocopy!

Why not just offer it for sale as a 'Beautiful Monogram Letter' and see if anyone takes it? :thinks:

I think it's possibly an L but very stylised.

It is so pretty but I can't make out which letter it is. A good idea of Wendy's.

I agree. Probably an L but Wendy's idea makes the most sense to me.

It's a great way to go about it! "Let the one who wants it decide what it is!"

Thank you so much everyone for the replies, ideas and suggestions! I'm glad I decided to come look at my post - I thought I'd get emails whenever anyone posted a comment so I was so happy and surprised to see all the comments when I got here!
I also was leaning mostly towards an "L" - and also thought it looked like a mirror image "J" LOL!
Letting a buyer decide is a good idea...and I think it would make a lovely decor piece for a tea room or somewhere of the sort where the letter doesn't really make much difference.
