Something personal but very exciting for me

Post by istitchwithlove »

I want to share something with ya'll and it is personal but a true store and I am very excited about it. I am not one to put this kind of stuff out on the internet anymore. Life has taught me to be careful with the internet but here we go...

In my 20 and teens I was a mean and nasty hot head with bad entitlement issues...I could not hold down a job in fast food or anywhere..so i gave up and applied for Disability in 06... While waiting for a judgement on it i tried working again and that lasted like a month...so I have not worked since November 06..'

I found out late December 06 that I was approved for SSI. With my SSI came some money and all my medical covered. With all my physical ailments and all the mental treatment and disorders i needed that medical coverage. With my entitlement issues I was content on SSI...

Then I moved out into my bf/room mates condo in 08 and I started thinking. Do I want to survive the rest of my life on 6-700 a month? The answer was no. So I started school at university of Phoenix on October 23rd, 2008 as I had decided SSI is not my end game. I am almost done with my Masters and have no more federal funds for loans available. So I put into motion and have taken steps to get help with finding a job.
Since I have not worked for 10 years I can't jump right into healthcare.. I need to get used to working again and get experience that is not 10 years old and only for a month..

Yesterday I turned in an application to waitress because it is a safe job for me, i enjoy it, and I am good at it. I need to get out there.. Well today while dad was preparing lasagna for supper the phone ring and I saw it was a cell phone from MD. It's always pops up Maryland and then the number marking it a cell number...

It was the place I had applied too asking if it was me. I said yes and he asked was I applying to be a waitress. I said yes. He asked if I was free. Again i said yes. He said ok come down for training.

I thought i was going to have a heart attack. A girl had just quit and they called me.. So i washed my hair got out of my jammies, through myself together really quick and dad put the lasagna together and in the oven and down I went.

I had 3 tables and made 11.15 in tips. I was a wreck and probably talked way too much about stuff I shouldn't have.. but i have the social graces of a Acron....

Tomorrow I work 4 to close and then all next week I work open to 4.. I'm going to have to call the place where I receive my mental health care and reschedule my therapy appt and call my vocational coordinator too......

I am still in OMG mode

:whoop: I agree and it sounds like you are taking the steps you need to take to achieve your goal. And this is a pretty big one. And your first days have shown that you can do this! Anytime you need any encouragement, we are around. One of the bonuses of an international forum is that we have pretty much all the time zones covered. Keep us updated on how you are doing!

Today was 4 to close.. I was on my own from 7 pm till close but I managed 51.00 in tips from 7 tables today... So it's great I did a klutz move on the wet floor and got my knees good, but that's nothing new for me...LOL

This is very positive news -- well done! Waitressing is physically demanding (and skilful) work, but at least you won't be bored working over the busy Christmas season. :D
