Font problem

Post by Rose »

In a couple of the post I have put up I have tried to us the bold button and also make the font larger. Both times all I get is a bunch of symbols before and after what I was trying to make bold. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? I usually type what I want to say and then go back and try to bold what I want to stand out, is this the wrong way to do it and if so what should I do?

I like changing the font and the colour but find that all I get are letters and symbols and no change in font or colour so I dont think it is anything that you are doing, unless I am too. Linda

Let me see if I can do this. If I can, then I'll report.

This should be bold

And this should be in italics.

What I did was this: either way works

Either click on the B or i or u button at the top both before and after the text you want to make bold, italic or underline. Make sure you have both symbols because one symbol group starts the process and the other symbol group stops it.

Or select the text you want to change (using the mouse) and then click on the correct button.

In both cases you will get a symbol group of brackets, oblique and letter. That tells the system what to do. If you don't have such a symbol group at both the start and finish of the text you selected, it won't work.

You will only see the symbols when you are typing your message. You will only see the change when it is posted or in preview.

Remember
use buttons twice (once to start; once to stop) if you are bolding, italicising or underlining as you go along.
use mouse to select text if you are going back to highlight the text.

Colour works the same way. Have fun. :)

You can also use the button once at the start of what you are writing, for example the B button at the start of the word, which will place the [ b ] symbol in front of your word to show that the bold text starts there. When you are ready to stop the text being bold simply press on where it says Close Tags and it will end the bold, with a symbol like [ /b ]

Rose, the problem you are having is in your 'Profile'. You had ''BBCode' turned off. I have just switched it back on, so if you give it a try now, all should be fine.

When you choose the size of the text or the colour you need to make sure the part that says [ color=red ] (or whatever colour or size you choose) is before the part you want coloured/sized, and the part that says [ /color ] is at the end of the part you want coloured/sized.

Well that goes to show that people who don't understand computers should not try to ask silly questions.
