Usergroups question

When I come on the site I like to look at all the stuff that I can that means clicking on each of the links at the top of the page. You never know who might have added a new picture or if someone has looked at my gallery and left a comment so each time I am on I look at all the sections, even go to my profile once in awhile just to see what I put up. And of course the memebers list to see how many we are know. Ok I will get to the point WHAT is the Usergroups section for?? I have looked at it many times and there is nothing there. What do we do with it? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I just can't seem to figure out what it is for.

Usergroups is something where you can join different groups on the forums, like moderators would be a group. But obviously this forum has no groups, so the link has no purpose.
