I used to stitch around the edge of my projects to stop fraying but found that a bit too much hassle. So now I tape along the outside edge much quicker so more stitching time
I have a terrible confession to make: I can't sew. I don't own a pair of pinking shears and am often hard-pressed to find pins. I don't put in a line of tacking every ten threads.
I can embroider, cross-stitch and enjoy all sorts of fancy stuff. I can turn a hem. I can hand-sew to finish things up (I love ladder stitch!)
i have to admitt i as also lazy when it comes to this i just cut a piece of material way bigger then i need and as it frays i cut them off. i know i know this is not proper but it hard to break old habits
I use frey stopper, its a bit like a gluey type of liquid, but it doesnt stick. Its fantastic, just cut the fabric run that along the edges, leave it for a couple of mins to dry and away you go!
I always zig zag around the fabric, I used to tape but foung it really annoying and made the edges thicker making it difficult on a scroll frame, the edges were tight but the middle was slack. Linda
Used to use masking tape until I recently read about and discovered frey check. Run it along the edge of your material, allow it to dry and no more fraying.
I use masking tape on mine always have it was the way my mother in law taught me too.....I don't like using a hoop either, yet she does and my sister in law doesn't stitch from middle and then work out. She'll start in the middle and then dot around the aida doing bits that she wants. She just told me the other day that her rainbow on her carebears one isn't going to align up lol so going to have to unpick it all. She will learn the hard way....What is zigzaging???
Zigzag is on the sewing machine the stitch yougo around the out side edge and just catch the sides. It is just like what sewers do so the fabric doesn't frey.
