i use qsnaps. i believe there is an 8x8 one. they are nice, not sure if you have used them before. they are easier than a scroll frame and nicer on your fabric than a hoop.
I love qsnaps. I wouldn't stitch without them, unless too small of a fabric.
but I love them! the folds are easier to get out when ironing.
the only thing is if you dont completely hide your fabric edges under the "snaps" you will get oil marks.

let me know if i need to dig up a web link for you to see what I'm talking about...i'll be back on the board in a bit after breakfast!

I would probably use a scroll frame for a piece that size. It would be manageable without a stand and you could use a pillowcase to cover it when you weren't working on it. However, if you are having to buy a frame, q-snaps are good (although expensive and not easily come by, at least here in the UK).

I absolutely love the q-snaps they are so much easier to use then the hoops and I don't like the frames at all they don't hold the edges the way I like them to.

this site is very good at getting the q-snaps to you in a very quick time frame. It is a home business so sometimes they are out and you have to try a couple times but the snaps are well worth the wait.

I get my Qsnaps from 123 Stitch. I think they are cheaper than the QSnap website and right now they are on sale.

Here is the link for the q-snaps on 123 Stitch. The sale price is cheaper then the other site.

http://www.123stitch.com/QSnapFrames.html

if this doesn't take you right to the frames just go to the home page and click on the sale button it will pop the link right up.
