Post by rainbow-eyez »

Im quite interested in turning some simple black and white graphics i have on my computer into a pattern for a present.

Can anyone recomend any programmes i can get to do this, or any easier method?

Thanks x

Hi!
Well, there are quite a few software packages meant for designing stitching patterns, like this one: www.cochenille.com/stitch.html (Stitch Painter; you can download a demo, but it won't let you print).

Obviously you have access to a computer (PC? Mac?). You could easily use the drawing and painting tools to make a design. Guess you would have to make a matrix first -- a grid -- and then colour it in!

Also you can look around the net and find other demo's for other programs. A very good one is PC Stitcher.

If you let me know the maximum length (in number of stitches) across that you want it to be, I can make you a counted graph in gif format, ready to either print or stitch right from the computer.

If it's too small, it loses detail. I'll play around with different sizes, and let you choose from the results before I turn it into a finished chart. This will be a fun computer project for today. I was looking for something to do! :)

Email me at me@scentednectar.com and I'll send you a few sizes of the graphic to choose from.

If anyone else wants to turn a picture into a chart, just let me know. I have a system that makes it fast and easy to do either a one page chart, or a series of sequential (by colour) charts. The latter is good for patterns that have many colours or are complex.

I really don't understand why people would want to pay for someone else to make a chart for them when it's so simple to do it yourself.

Weird.

Well it may be simple to do but there are some of us (gulp) who are just simple. I would show you a pic of a simple person but I dont have a good one of myself. hehehe

It is harder then some think. I do alot of my own patterns and I work on them over and over again to get them to work out just right. I takes me almost as much time to make a pattern as it does to stitch them.

Yes there are some very good programs out there but theyare only as good as the person that inputs the small finishing details.

Here's how I do it.

Reduce the picture's size so that each pixel will be one stitch.
Reduce the number of colours to an amount that's workable.
Increase the picture's size 8x so that each stitch is now 8 by 8 pixels.
Paste a grey grid onto the picture.
That's the final chart. To make sequential ones:
Remove the colors, one be one, saving each change under a new name.

I use PaintshopPro 7 for all this.
