Newbie

Post by xstitchalanna »

Hi! My name is Alanna and I just joined. I have been stitching on and off since I was 7 years old. Mostly self taught, I won awards in the fair when I was 15. I taught 3 people how to stitch including my grandmother! (Usually the other way around right?!) in any case I'm 28 and I don't know anyone else in the area who cross stitches and wanted to connect with other people who also enjoy the hobby.

And greetings from a very sunny West of Scotland!

You've certainly come to the right place. What sort of stitching do you enjoy? (We are very nosy here at CSF). If you put up a thread in the SAL section, we'll cheer you on in your latest project, too. :)

Hello from Colorado and welcome to the forum. Where in Ohio are you? I've only been to the northern part - my d-i-l is from Chardon.

I hope you'll share pics of your work - we really love pictures here. What kinds of designs do you prefer? Like you, I joined the forum because no one I know stitches. Now I have friends all over the world who share my love for this addictive hobby.

 Hi Alanna and welcome from me too in warm Brisbane Australia it is great that you have joined us. I look forward to getting to know you and enjoy seeing your work. What are you stitching now? I guess a lot of people will be starting their Christmas stitching about now. Good on you for teaching your grandmother to cross stitch  quite a switch.

Welcome to the forum, Alanna.
I was basically self taught, but came here because I had no idea what was possible, just felt 'more should be possible' than I was doing. I've learnt so much from other members here. Maybe you can share your achievements with us, and learn or teach as appropriate. With any luck you can pass something new onto us and vice versa. It's the exchange that's so much fun.

Regards,

Richard.

 Welcome from me too! I'm in SW France, an ex-pat who is also self taught.
This is the place to learn new techniques that you never thought of doing. I've learnt the Hardanger is easier and more absorbing than I ever imagined, and I'm much more confident with using different counts of fabric for cross stitch too!

Looking forward to seeing what you love to stitch.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm looking forward to learning here and seeing what everyone is working on.

I'm in Fairlawn/Akron area which is about 30 minutes south of Cleveland.

Some of the things that I would like to learn is hardanger and the parking technique.

 Hello Alanna! Welcome to the forum from South Carolina! I'm another who is self taught and joined the forum because I didn't know anyone else who stitches. Now I have friends all over the world and have learned more in the 5 1/2 years I've been here than in the 20 years I stitched alone. And my love for cross stitch has grown every day. I hope you will post pictures of your projects. We love pictures! I am looking forward to getting to know you.

New here as well. Learned how to x stitch as a child from my mother though for many years with young kids I never seemed to find the time. They are in their teens now and my Mom recently passed away and I found multiple unfinished projects in her studio. I have been slowly going through finishing up her projects and am excited to start new on some of my own.

Hello crhessel1 and welcome to the forum from South Carolina! I am sorry to hear about your mother, but I'm sure that she is delighted that you have finished her projects. A wonderful way to remember her. And now picking your own new projects! What kinds of projects do you like to do?

Most of my Mom's projects were samplers or that style, I prefer artistic pieces. I have purchased two patterns off of Etsy which are images of famous paintings one a Kandinsky piece and the other a Klee.
