Christmas Tapestry in Cross-Stitch - FOUND!!!

Post by debupnorth »

This book is the work of Inga Palmgren, a Swedish designer. It has her annual Christmas designs from 1957 thru to 2000, which are done in red & white. It was published in Japan (which is making it harder to track down) by Colour Field Publications, Supervisor Mikiko Yamanashi. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Here is a link to a few of the pieces. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nfuz1cGZKK0/T ... lmgren.jpg

The best place I know to try to get Japanese craft books is the seller Pomadour24 on eBay. She doesn't have this one in her shop at the moment, but if you get in touch with her and ask she may very well be able to get it for you. I've used her before for some fabulous Japanese crochet books and would thoroughly recommend her.

I did look at some of her books on eBay (very nice) & sent her a message regarding my search for the book. Thanks for the tip. :)

Got a response from Pomadour24 directing me to Mikiko Yamanashi's site... it is listed there, however it is marked as Sold Out! :( (It's the red book, about 6 or 7 books down.) If anyone has any leads on where I can purchase this (new or used), please, please let me know. Thanks so much for looking!

That's a pity  I tried another google search, but all I could find was a lot of dodgy sounding sites that I didn't want to click on. I hope someone else can help :x: :x: :x: :x:

Re: Christmas Tapestry in Cross-Stitch - REWARD offered

Post by debupnorth »

I'm still on the lookout for this book (Christmas Tapestry in Cross Stitch) & thought a "reward" might help generate some leads.

If you have information that would result in the purchase of this book, I would be willing to stitch one of the designs from the book for you, or any other design of your choice of similar size.

Here is a link showing the designs. It is in Japanese, so the text will show up as tiny boxes. http://yhi1971.com/items/pg130.html

Thank you so much for looking!

I have a friend who is a used bookseller. This is out of her usual area of expertise, but I'll pass the information along and see if she has any thoughts.

Had a look at Pomadour24 and ended up with more books on my wishlist! >.<
That's the great thing about Cross Stitch - most of teh charts are universal, especially with small projects.

Thanks for the links nachosmiley & Reta - I did take a look, but my Live Search Translator left a lot to be desired (I don't know how to access anything else) & the wording & references to CD's & copies have me leery as to what I would really be getting.

If anyone knows if the book was published with a CD of the charts, or if they were printed in the book as I assumed, please let me know. :beg: Any information I can gather makes it easier for me to track it down and make decisions with confidence!

I have seen some pictures on a stitcher's blog which showed a couple of the inside pages of the book and the patterns are definately in the book, not on a CD.

Don't know if it is any use to you but there is a Swedish stitching company that seem to have the right to sell the individual patterns - http://www.hemslojdenskane.se/kategori/ ... /price/asc" target="_blank

If you choose pattern only they are 50 krona which is $7-8 dollars each. There isn't the option to ship internationally through the online shop but i've translated their terms & conditions and they say they are happy to ship abroad, you just need to email them so they can work out postage options. I've been meaning to email them for ages to order some but my christmas stash is too huge at the moment

It's not the same as having the book but at least you could choose some of your favourite deisgns

Thank you so very much Lottie, I've bookmarked the site & will check into it further once I decide which chart I'd like to try. It's so hard to narrow it down! :)

I just ordered the recently republished version of the book, now under the title "Christmas Calendar in Cross-Stitch".  The book is a bit pricey, with shipping from Japan it's a bit over $100! - but since it's for 40+ charts, that's not totally out of line.

A big Thank You :applesauce: to Joan Z (Mondayquilt), who is also an Inga Palmgren fan and has many contacts in the Scandinavian stitching community, plus she was more persistent in following up the leads as they came along. We've narrowed down the choice of charts I'm going to stitch for her, but it's not quite final. She has also purchased the book & says it's simply awesome!
