Free cross stitch patterns etc.

I‘ve just completed a revamp of our website information pages and also our free cross stitch patterns. You can access both of these sections here: free cross stitch patterns and information . I hope one of the patterns will come in handy (perhaps the little Christmas design) and it would be very i...

Re: Aida count

The finer fabric with a high thread count almost always looks better for me. I think this is because the shape of the individual cross stitches is less obvious and each stitch becomes more a point of colour in the overall design. Of course it depends on the design, but I think the trees and branches...

Re: How do you frame?

Hi Meme. I always ask how they attach the cross stitch to the backing board. Some framers lace the work at the back and others just use adhesive tape. I’ve found over the years that the traditional method of lacing gives better results, but the down side is that framers who do it this way are normal...

Re: New Baby Cross Stitch

How interesting to hear some of the background to the design. It was certainly worth the effort to get it just right.

Re: New Baby Cross Stitch

Yes Ayna I agree that is one big problem with the subtle shadings: it is just so easy to miss a mistake before it becomes a real pest to correct.

Re: Hello Everyone

Hi Spelena and welcome to the forum from another newcomer. Terrible what havoc a relatively few bankers and politicians have caused in the World. So carry on stitching!

Hi Athalie. Yes I know exactly what you mean about old sepia photos. They have a lovely quality and atmosphere about them.

Re: New Baby Cross Stitch

Hi Tiffany. I think you have raised an interesting point about “old and modern at the same time”. Maybe it’s because the sepia tones fit in very well with modern decor; but the romantic treatment of the subject matter, like the first photographs, echoes decades past?

Re: Black fabric question

Hi Calico. Glad to hear you went for the Jobelan. The finer background makes the finished project look so much better! I too was reluctant to tackle black or dark navy evenweave fabric, even though some of the designs look terrific. So a few years ago I bought a needlework uplight. This is a lightbo...

Re: Anyone use a lap stand?

Hi , I did not really get on very well with a lap stand. The frame which I like best is a one-leg adjustable free standing frame. The advantage of this is that the arm holding the cross stitch can be moved up or down, and back and forwards towards me. So I can sit back in an easy chair and adjust it...

Hi Carol and Lucyloo. I also used to live in Nottingham Carol (for 4 years at art college) and I bet you are finding it a little different in Melbourne. What a small world! Thanks also to Carole from South Carolina, Melanie and Corey for making me feel part of the group. I’m pleased to say Corey tha...

Re: Hello Everyone

Hi Squirrel, What a nice welcome from the other side of the world. We’re all getting very used to it – but these international links are great! I’m stitching a historical sampler set at the moment, which is very time consuming but I’m really enjoying it. I will try to put a link to my blog into my...

Hello Everyone

Hi Everyone, I’ve just joined the forum and thought I would call by and introduce myself. I’m from the north of England and worked as a teacher until the urge to start my own business overwhelmed me. It was naive, but I really thought I could run a shop with the baby in a playpen. How wrong I was, e...
