Re: New Look Forum Style!

So I leave & everything seems to have changed! I'll need some time to get used to the new look, but I think it is sleeker.

One question....seems my mailbox is 100% full...but I can't find any way to delete any messages. :thinks:

Re: Avatar name?

When I joined I tried to count up how long it had been since I last cross stitched....and realized that it came out to about a dozen years. My picture is of our cat Zoe. edited to add: my counting is still a bit imprecise at times :tizzy: ....which leads to many :anotherfrog: :anotherfrog: :anotherf...

Hi y'all!

I've been lurking a lot for a long time...guess it was back last Autumn when I last posted? (SOMETHING like that!) Oh the year we've had! A refrigerator repairman ran over the water line & caused $10k in water damages (remember, we JUST bought this place last September!) So I'm in the middle of ...

Re: Mouldy cross stitch kit...

If you have some nice sunny days, after you wash them, lay them in the bright sun to dry... The sun is an AWESOME sanitizer. When I was in the Air Force I learned that the ultraviolet rays on a sunny day (no matter the temperature; below freezing upto scorching out in the desert) will kill all viru...

Re: Question About Bucilla Kits

Yeah, that's the problem with Bucilla. I don't know if they do it this way to keep costs low? Personally, I would (& do) pay more for awesome designs with clear floss lists/supplies (like the Chatelaine I haven't started yet....the kitting it up is more than half the fun for me).

Re: Baby Proofing Cross stitch area

Not to be a wet blanket but by the time my first one was a toddler (& the 2nd was just born) I put away my cross stitching. It's nostalgic to think back on it all & I'm so much more at ease stitching now that our youngest is turning 18 on Tuesday. (Although when I read to DH about someone el...

I don't think so. The process to weave/make the aida is a compacting process (if those are the correct words?) I'm pretty sure it's as shrunk as it can get.

Re: How to Helpers

Rose, that's a good idea, but to save time, I'm gonna' cheat & tell everyone in 6 sentences what took Pamela over 6 minutes. Soak aida in scalding hot water. Remove to towel, spread out & blot dry. Take the core-roll from aluminum foil/wax paper. Cover core-roll with wax paper & roll up ...

That baby polar bear is so cute! There's a lil' one who was just introduced to the zoo visitors (I saw the film on the news) over in Europe....he was soooo cute (at least I *think* it was a he---I let him have his privacy!)

Re: Hullo. I've just joined.

 Hi & welcome from Florida! Half stitches...those fractional ones can drive me bananas! The rule of thumb is, if you want it to look like their picture, stitch it their way. BUT a lot of us around here like to change-up stuff & do it our (own) way. There isn't a right or wrong to it--t...

Re: Star Wars + Cross Stitch

In another thread there's a discussion about the cost to purchase cross stitched works. Did any of y'all notice the Gallery88 link? Wish I had an extra $20k laying around! (Did anyone win last nights power ball? Maybe there's still hope there!)

mauveme-that's what's turned me off to them--'thread coverage'. That's why I was thinking replacing the stamped fabby w/a better one of my choice would do.

Re: Stamped cross stitch kits

Oh, I just caught that on this chart...the background is printed, the rest IS counted cross stitch. But that really doesn't change my idea...I still don't like the 'pre-printed' background. I could still get the kit but use my own fabric (in which case I'd have the bird & some of the flowers but...

Stamped cross stitch kits

Although I prefer aida or evenweave for my cross stitching, I've seen some very pretty stamped cross stitch kits. I prefer the other fabrics because I like the stitch coverage better and I don't really like having any of the design printed (specifically to be NOT stitched). In the past, I would have...

This "stitch from stash" ban is all good & well. But I don't see (in that 3 or 4 word title) anywhere where it says you can't buy but not stitch! ;)

Re: WAY OFF TOPIC! *Warning* Scary IRS stuff!

Allyn, I was only trying to give a (common) scenario where someone does get a refund & it is not funds that had been with held from their paycheck.

No biggie, just trying to noodly my way around all this new stuff.

Re: WAY OFF TOPIC! *Warning* Scary IRS stuff!

...Getting a refund is really just getting your own money back. It's like going into the store to buy a pack of gum and giving the clerk a dollar and getting 50 cents back. . . but wait. . if you give the clerk five dollars, you'll get a $4.50 back. And if you give the clerk ten dollars, you'll get...
