I tend to use washable laundry pens, with acceptable results...
I've considered the fishing line method, but havent had any large projects to try it out recently

Re: 2013 Mini Projects
Just catching up on these projects, and find that a lot of these "mini" projects are better than my "main" ones, lol
I'll have to post some of my own recent pics....

Re: Stitch-A-Star
I also did a stitch-a-star of Audrey Hepburn before too... so I think I might add Cary Grant, James Dean and John Wayne, and frame a classic/retro actors collage

Stitch-A-Star
I'm looking for a Matt Smith (or would consider other Doctor Who designs) from the former stitch-a-star series....
I previously did a David Tenant design, and John Barrowman (Torchwood) project, and would like to add to the collection...

Re: Disney / Piglet design(s) ??
For the record, I've managed to find an Anchor/Disney bookmark kit on fleabay that looks suitable... I'll post a pic from home as soon as I get a chance (we don't have access to ebay here at work)

Re: how did you start?
I vaguely remember doing some VERY basic cross stitch at school, using a thick plastic needle, a length of wool, and what I now know to be binka material. I really didn't see the attraction at the time.... So fast-forward thru high school, college, a few jobs, and the beginnings of a family.... my f...

Disney / Piglet design(s) ??
Well I've been away from stitching for quite a while, but recently relented and did an Eeyore bookmark design for one of my step-daughters... ...so now the other daughter also wants a similar design, either a bookmark, or a small wall hanging. But she prefers Piglet rather than the other Winnie Pooh...

Re: To grid or not to grid ...
Once I'd tried gridding, I found it so much easier, I realise I'll never go back  I use a fabric pen to grid the 10x10 squares, and on larger projects I often make a slightly larger mark at the edge of the project every 50 or 100 squares. I also occasionally mark an arrow at the centre line of...

Re: Hoops/Frames Suggestions
I've used a hoop in the past for concentrating on smaller projects ... or on small sections of larger projects. But the majority of my work tends to be on scroll frames. I can't give a personal opinion of Q-Snaps because I've never used one, but from the number of positive comments already, they're ...

I LOOOVE those projects Rose.
My late father was a huge John Wayne fan, so I grew up with a lot of his films
(I was thinking of doing a John Wayne project in remembrance, but I think that seeing it hanging on the wall may still be too much for my mum to cope with)

Re: Which brand thread to you prefer? and why?
My stash is probably 75% DMC, 20% Anchor, and 5% leftovers from kits etc. I prefer DMC because I've found that they tend to have a slightly better sheen than a similarly coloured Anchor thread. As for access to new threads, my local stash shop has the full range of DMC, and most of the range of Anch...
