How silly of them -- and how unkind. It's all very well having a shop with a great range of practically everything, but if you then annoy your customers by your attitude you're not going to see them back in a hurry!

Double finish

Not really a WIP this, as it's already finished :-), so I couldn't put it in the SAL section, but I'd like to show you what I did with it and ask you what you think. For my cousin-in-law's 40th birthday (we've got an 80s party next week -- roll on the dangly ear-rings and the leg warmers) I stitched...

Oops -- see that was already mentioned

well at least you've got confirmation now that it can make a difference, two skeins being from different eras, so I hope it helped anyway...

Re: Sampler update and a lovely surprise!

Also, I have a problem with a purply colour (208) as I have two similar shades both numbered as that. Just to confuse the issue :-), they could both be 208. In my thread box I have two bobbins of 208, two of 209 and two of 554 (all of them purply shades) and they are very different, one of each bei...

What a lovely project -- really gets me inspired to try something 3D (after I've finished that little project stitched on 40ct over one; and an idea for cross-stitch-with-ribbon; and a monochrome Good Friday scene for the church; and... and...) Thought -- an Owl bell pull -- shouldn't that be a donk...

Aida count usually goes from 11,14,16,18,22,24 I've only just realised what you are saying here: do you really mean to say there is such a thing as 24ct aida? I have enough trouble finding the 22ct stuff, it usually turns out to be Hardanger, not aida at all, and even the nice stiff aida-y sort of ...

I've heard of people using PVA on the front of stitching to make it waterproof -- is that what you're thinking of, or using it on the back to attach the stitching?

I also wet the ends of the thread in my mouth when it slips out of the needle midway through stitching. By then it usually has acquired some cat hair as well, so if I get murdered and they decide to do an autopsy I'm sure I'd cause some puzzled faces :-) As for the original question, I'm definitely ...

You've got a local stitching shop... *gazes into middle distance and heaves a disconsolate sigh* -- apparently there was a lovely needlework shop in Rugby some years before I emigrated here; just my luck

This is a project I started right after Christmas for myself. It is my first blackwork project and it was a freebie listed on one of our sites. That is so beautiful! (as is your other work -- what a lovely gallery!) Could you tell me where you found the pattern? I've been making my first steps in b...

Hi Dazbo, what a challenge you've chosen for your first (or one of your first?) project -- it's going to look just stunning! Looking forward to seeing it in the SAL section.

Hello Carolyn, and welcome to the group -- glad you decided to jump in and join us; I did so fairly recently and am enjoying myself greatly :-) About metallics, I do find the DMC ones a bit of a bother to work with, haven't tried Kreinik yet, but what I did find works very well for me (see it in act...

It's a shame the kit had been in its original packaging for so long that it had become rather creased; I managed to iron the deep creases out of the fabric, and the creases in the ribbons didn't really matter that much with the lazy daisy stitches, but I'm afraid it is rather visible in the bow, whi...

Pink flowers added! Threadbear, the floss stitches are stemstitch for the, er, stems :-) and colonial knots for the lilacs and the flower centres, and the ribbon stitches so far are all lazy daisy -- the last bit is going to be the blue bow which is attached with little tacking stitches, only I'm no...

Not cross stitch -- sorry...

Because I wanted to try and learn different techniques and because I'm very much a let's-get-stuck-in-and-I'll-work-out-what-to-do-as-I-go-along sort of person (it's how I learnt calligraphy too -- I haven't the patience for a course, I'm afraid...) I bought two ribbonwork kits on eBay, one a very s...
