Aida cloth is much more difficult to do half stitches on. It does require piercing the fabric in the center of the square. I always choose to do projects with many fractional stitches on evenweave or linen because then I do not need to pierce anything. The half stitches simply go in the middle hole...

One thing I would recommend, after my first large project ended up being drastically off-center:
Find the center of your project and start there. OR, mark the center, and count out from there. I NEVER trust my counting from an edge. I will ALWAYS find center first.

Not sure if I understand you correctly. Do you want to essentially put 12 different small cross stitch patterns onto one piece of fabric? I assume you'll be doing it 4x3? Do you have your fabric cut to the large size yet? If it's approximately the right size, what I would do is fold it into fourths....

The first cross stitch project I ever did on my own was Teresa Wentzler's The Castle. It was full of half and 3/4 stitches. I did it on Aida not knowing that anything was strange. Aida cloth is much more difficult to do half stitches on. It does require piercing the fabric in the center of the squar...

My favorite tip for working with Kreinik Blending Filaments: Pull out and discard the black core. I am working on Teresa Wentzler's Peacock Tapestry.
