Re: When to progress to larger pieces

I think size is really relative. To me in all my stitching experience the 5x7s, 8x10s, etc were small in my mind. I have spent more time on bookmarks than on some of my small pictures. I jumped in and stitched something that appealed to me not really giving size a thought so my first needlepoint was...

Re: How to pull off 1 ply from a skein??

Mabel--I was taught to pull one strand at a time and reconstruct. The thread lies flatter and more uniform that way when you are stitching.

Re: Q snap advice please for a frame novice

I guess scroll frames are different in the tautness. My sides are just as taut as if it were in the QSnap and it holds it that way. I find that I can tighten better having replaced the metal wing nuts with plastic knobs. But, yes, everything is a very personal preference and in the perfect world we ...

Re: How to pull off 1 ply from a skein??

Hard to explain but I kind of slide it down the length without any great degree of difficulty and I start with 36 to 40" lengths.

Re: Huge projects just not for me :(

I'm not into HAEDs at all but it doesn't matter what I do I look at it in parts. Makes things so much less overwhelming and there is so much more chance it will get done.

Varies greatly. Depends on mood and other things calling me. And that is with me being retired.

Re: Q snap advice please for a frame novice

There's two QSnap threads at this time. I've said it before. Preference is a large part. Personally I prefer the wooden floor scroll frames because I don't have to hold it. Also with them I have a 24" rod but can get longer ones easily if I need it and this way I don't have the extra fabric in ...

Re: Q-snap question

I have all the sizes and they have been rejigged so many times that I have ended up with sizes that weren't original sizes. There are joiners and 3" extenders and on occasion I have had to use a pair of pliers to pull them out to make the size I want. The reason I know they weren't original int...

Height chart or bell pull-- because it is long you want something at the bottom to weight it somewhat.

Re: Q snap advice please for a frame novice

I haven't checked with needlecraft shops. All my QSnaps are from quilting and quilt shop shopping days. I myself no longer use QSnaps for large item stitching as I prefer to corral my fabric on a scroll frame and not have all that hangover. With a larger QSnap you do not have as much hangover but it...

Re: Why do we stitch?

Funny how a comment by one of you brought back my life motto: Crafts, knitting or whatever form my creative bent takes at the time--Yes, currently it is divided between cross stitch and quilting--one fact remains. IT MAY NOT BE CHEAPER THAN MUSCLE RELAXANTS AND TRANQUILIZERS BUT FAR MORE PLEASURABLE...

Re: A cheap way to hang a banner

I have used that technique many times. If you hide it completely behind the stitching I have used metal curtain rods which are adjustable, unlike the wood.

Re: Backstitch - Love it or Loathe it?

I used to dislike back stitching. So I switched to back stitching as I finished small areas and my mental outlook is so much better. Now I look forward to reach back stitching. It means that a small part of the stitching is all done. NO more, it's all done except for ALL the back stitching. I consid...

Re: Why do we stitch?

I guess I could pretty well tick all of the above reasons. Because I like to be busy and always have my hands occupied while sitting, cross stitch is the ideal medium. In my older age it is also my connection with my heritage, having learned from my Grandma. I had become a very avid quilter but I tu...

Re: Fabric

Am I assuming you want a piece that exact size and have no wastage? That could be impossible or you might find someone willing to cut it for you but they would charge you for the wastage so you're better off to buy it yourself and have some bits leftover.

Re: Advice on Cross Stitch

Here's no help. My pat answer to questions like that is that you are the artist and I can not use your brain to give you the answer you want to hear. My vision and your vision are two different things. You can have someone describe a scene to you and another person, for both to draw, and the final r...

Re: how to use

I just will add that having to hold it in my hand and stitching was not fun. When I got the floor stand for it, easily constructed if you have someone handy with wood, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I also got a lap stand but personally prefer the floor stand so had DH modify the lap scrol...
