Re: easiest/most efficient way to stitch

Your style will develop and then also possibly change over time. Try different things and eventually you will have some you like better and use over and over and others you discard. It is a learning process even yet for me and I did my first stitches 60 years ago at my Grandmother's knee. It is said...

Re: Stitching Slump

My first thought is do you have a medical or physical condition you might not even be aware of. It took me many years to figure out that I suffer from winter symptoms, maybe not Winter Syndrome, but enough that I function far better if the sun is shining than when it is not. Last winter I couldn't s...

Re: Stash Inheritance

I fully understand the marking of the graphs. That is why I make a photocopy of mine so that if I ever want to do it a second time I can still read it. I find with griding it does remove some but not all the need so I keep washable marker with my work so that it will wash out if I hit the fabric whe...

Re: How to cut iron-on interfacing???

Rotary cutter, hands down, is the easiest way but mighty expensive set up for occasional use. I have worn out all parts of my system over the years while quilting. I would never have become a quilter if it hadn't been for that invention. And, it is a take off on the pizza cutter. It is the combinati...

I do my own labels on the computer and purchased label sheets. I use the template from the company's web site or from Microsoft. Makes it easy to have professional looking labels when I need them.

Re: Time for God bookmarks

To test color against fabric you need to split your floss to what you are actually going to use and then lay it on the fabric t get a true picture. That in itself is not enough. You then need to step away anywhere from a few feet to 10 feet depending on the finished product, closer for book mark, fu...

Re: Hoops vs. Q Snaps

I don't have to go and buy any as I have three rolls of it from when I had my previous sofa and it was great to help keep the cushions in place. The current one is constructed differently and they are gathering dust. I just came across this stuff the day you posted. Must be meant to be!

Re: Useful tools and accessories

I have used those stick on pads. Great for finger stabs but not good for my skin. What I do is use the dots embedded in a "tape" I got from Lee Valley. It has no stickiness but adheres to itself and build myself a "thimble" that fits me and I am comfortable with. The "tape&q...

Re: needleboxes

Fabulous idea. I had a tea box I had hung onto for some time, just in case, but decided to turf it. Now I have to wait until I need tea again and do something similar. Brilliant idea.

Andrea--thanks for the suggestion to use "kitchen mesh type of thing" to tighten the Q Snap. My clamps have stretched from years of quilting.

Re: What did I do?

I have found he doctors useless in situations like that but I run, not walk, to the massage or physio therapist. By now I have a raft of hand supports from Hand-eze gloves to carpal tunnel and thumb supports and I generally wear both the Hand-eze and the right thumb support when I stitch as I have f...

Re: stitching course

Mabel--Believe me it will be harder to limit yourself to 45 minutes than to fill the time. I had the opportunity to do talks about quilting to a needlework group once a year for about six years. I always had a blast and never managed to say and show all I wanted on a certain topic. The group held a ...

Re: Black Floss: Is it my imagination ... ?

I learned about the difference in thickness due to dye process way back when I was both a knitter and yarn seller. Not the imagination at all. Dyes are chemical compositions and so it depends on what and how much has to be used to make the color. I learned the extreme differences in the amounts need...

Re: Not as good as I'd like

Something I have found a help is to split one strand at a time from the floss and then rebuild to the desired thickness. This helps the stitch lie flatter and therefore can help with the even look. As many others and I've said before, look at it from a distance before you get too critical. Something...

Re: changing aida count size

As already mentioned the finished product will be seen from a distance. Keep that in mind, even when you test. I am happy with 2 strands on 14, I do not buy or even look at kits partially because I plan to stick to 14 Aida. I have tried evenweave and finer Aidas but I found they were not for me.

Re: 1st afghan

I started and then pulled out all I had done but I used my QSnap and wouldn't dream otherwise. Of course an afghan is pretty puny in comparison to quilting a queen size quilt with QSnap and that is in my past. As already discussed in other topics QSnaps do not leave all that much of a mark, particul...

Re: Busy times ahead!

The foundation for stitching has been laid and will remain with them for life. My cross stitching has gone through much longer off cycles than on but I think now that I am in true granny mode it will remain on while my sewing/quilting will take the slowdown mode. Both my boys did a needlepoint and r...

Re: Hoops vs. Q Snaps

Not only do I mix and match my sizes I also reconfigure them by pulling out and rotating the joiners to suit my needs. Then depending on my fabric I sometimes stitch on a piece of scrap quilt fabric so that it has four sides to clamp. When I switch the joiners about sometimes the clamps are either a...

Re: Framing advice please...

To most framing shops, a sale is a sale, whether you get the whole thing done or just one small component. I've never had difficulty and often have only required the mat to be cut.
