Re: Knitting & Stitching show
Well I'm back home resting my aching feet. Best new find was these people who had really interesting kits including this one that had sold out: http://justartstitch.co.uk/eshop/creative_needlework_images/red_autumn?eshop_sid=rwZQbSZJXTnpoWU&" target="_blank Looked amazing on their stan...

Re: Every hole in backstitch?
I try to follow the line as I think it should go i.e. if the holes don't match then I don't use those holes! My rule is I don't make the backstitch longer than 4 holes (on aida). It makes the backstitch go faster too and I haven't noticed it having a detrimental effect in the finished piece.

Re: Moonlit Cabin progress
I'm doing this one at the moment too - it's my portable project. I've had real problems with the thread fraying so have switched to a smaller needle and am using thread heaven with it. I suspect you started in a better place than me! - I started in the middle and it's all a bit tricky. I'll be worki...

Change the buttons, change the lining, add embroidery/detailing to the collar/cuffs.

Re: Brands of Floss: Preference?
There are Dimensions to DMC and Anchor lists online, but I suspect I will just carry on and hope for the best in the current project and be prepared to see what happens when I start the new project in a few years time.

Re: Emma's Sistine Chapel
Thanks for the info, I think I'll get some 22 ct fabric and try it out for one of my HAED story keeps.
Eventually one day I'll get around to doing my big HAED, but not until I'm sure of the count and coverage I'm going to use!

I'd heard this as well, but having used it I'm not so sure now!backafteradozenyrs wrote: Hmm, for some reason I thought Dimensions used DMC....I wonder why I thought that?

Re: Emma's Sistine Chapel
How are you finding 2 over 1 on 22ct? I'm considering this combo for my next HAED as 1 over 1 on 25 count isn't quite enough coverage, but 2 over 1 is impossible (for me)!

I would always recommend that people set their Privacy on Facebook to Friends only for every option especially photos, it's a bit of a faff, but it can help stop things like this happening!

Re: Brands of Floss: Preference?
I find DMC and Anchor are interchangeable quality wise. But my portable project is Dimensions who say they use their own thread and it's awful! Frays and breaks at the drop of hat. I'm going to try Thread Heaven and a smaller needle, but I'm worried as my next big project is a Dimensions Gold kit th...

I have the side clamp and no extension. It's fine for my sofa, but I suspect I will need the extension at some point in the future when I get a larger sofa. There's a picture here of it at it's minimum setting: http://flic.kr/p/7qtfSp" target="_blank And a pic here of it in use (though I w...

Aha, thanks for that. I shall probably just go ahead and book a workshop and ticket then before all the workshops I'm interested in sell out.

Re: 28 count is really hard to stitch .
Frogging on 28 count: Forget trying to reuse the thread. Get some very sharp pointy embroidery scissors and CAREFULLY cut the stitches out without cutting the fabric. Cut a stitch and then use a needle to get what you can out then cut again. You could also try using a seam ripper. After it's all out...

Actually I am now thinking going to this years show. I wasn't going to, but am now thinking of getting a sewing machine this year so would quite like to have a look at machines and fabrics and so on that I've passed by before. I'll probably go on the Saturday or Sunday. I suspect Mabel has already b...

Re: Other stitchers who are also gamers
Do you have to know how to read to play Junior Settlers? Big One is only 4 No reading involved (so long as there is an adult who can read the rules first) I've played it with a 4 year old (+1 other adult and a 6 year old), admittedly with amended house rules as otherwise there might have been too m...
