Re: Confessions of a Cross Stitcher

I love HaED because their charts don't involve back-stitching. I hate HaED because the best ones all involve HORDES of confetti-stitches. I love HaED because the pictures are - mostly - so good. I hate HaED because the pictures can mislead you into thinking that the stitched work will look as clean ...

Re: Anyone have experience with a puppy eating a pattern?!

No, no puppy problems here. Oh, except I do remember a German Shepherd puppy who found and chewed my nice little Olympus camera into scrap aluminium... BUT... I'm SO glad that, when I buy a chart these days, it usually comes as a .PDF file. That way, it's always there in my laptop's innards, and I c...

Re: Blackwork

Thanks again for the comments.
Actually I was hoping that, by starting a thread entitled 'Blackwork', I might have encouraged others here to post pictures of their own similar work.
Admiration's nice. Company is better!

Re: Blackwork

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. I agree about back-stitching being something of a chore when it's on top of a lovingly-executed cross-stitch workpiece. Blackwork done on a pristine piece of evenweave, however, that's something different. I'm not sure which magazine I found that chessboard in....

Blackwork

Sometimes, as a sort of diversion from cross-stitch, I like to try my hand at blackwork. For example: [1] A matching pair of pictures. These came as kits - sorry but I can't remember who produced them. I wish there were more kits available like this. http://i67.tinypic.com/2hdpe9e.jpg http://i64.tin...

Re: Hi, To all

Thanks for the kind replies, everyone. My sampler was adapted from a pattern in one of the cross-stitch magazines a while back. The original pattern was 9 octagons by 9. I upped it to 10 x 10, to make room for the picture of my (mid-Wales) cottage, plus my name, and all around the border I added the...

Re: Sewing machine recommendations

I had a Frister & Rossman Cub 3 for about 35 years. I went for the name because when I was a kid my mum had a F&R treadle sewing machine (hey, I'm talking nineteen-forties here!). It served me well, but about 7 years ago I found I had some spare cash and I upgraded to a Toyota EZ1. It has a ...

Re: Posting Pictures into a thread.

Yes, I get all this. Did it when I posted my first post. But why do I have to copy my pic onto a cloud site (is, surrender control of it) before I can post it here?
Is there no way to upload a pic to CSF directly from my laptop?

Re: Hi, To all

Hi everyone. I'm the cross-stitching husband of Maggiepie. She suggested I ought to take a look at this forum, so here I am. Nice welcome from you all! We're both seriously retired, so we tend to sit together and stitch when the fancy takes us. Here's a pic of one of my recently completed projects: ...
