Re: Stashmas 2018: And what did you get for Stashmas?

So after a slightly frantic last few weeks of work I've finally opened my Stashmas gift! Thank you CuriousKitty for the lovely sled patterns - I'll be stitching these up to go with next year's Christmas presents :D Quaker sleds: https://www.ceciliassamplers.com/images/charts/foxwoodcrossings/quaker....

Re: Humphrey the Hare Finally Finished!

That’s beautiful!

I’ve had my eye on those patterns, they’re particularly lovely, so seeing one finished does increase my temptation!

Re: Finished Object! My stitched spine is done.

Thanks everyone! I’m gradually working through all the various bits I’ve had scanned - the next project is my right hand, but at about 3 times actual size. I’d like to do it in less than a year, but that depends on how sleepy I am after work etc.

Re: Metallic Threads

After checking a few stores, I decided to check a bead store. They had a small container of bees wax with the slits. It was actually in the leather work aisles. I assume for adding beads to leather. Thanks for all the help. If it's anything like bookbinding, the thread is passed through the beeswax...

Finished Object! My stitched spine is done.

Hi folks, I've not been active on any message boards for... quite a while, as life's been pretty busy. (Mostly good stuff, just not left any spare brain for things like conversation!) I started my stitched spine in July 2017, and finished in August this year. I'm sure it wouldn't have taken someone ...

Re: Anybody tried hand dying fabrics?

I’ve used Inktense sticks to dye fabric successes - they’re solid water-soluble sticks, designed to be used either as pastels / crayons, or scraped into powder. I soaked the fabric in water, wrung it out, then sprinkled the dye-dust from the stick onto the wet fabric. Then misted the fabric with a s...

*comments* to keep an eye on this thread - all of those pieces are glorious. Does anyone else have any family heirloom / historic pieces stashed in a cupboard?

Re: STASHMAS 2016!!Send List Posted!! Send by Nov 4th!!!

Debby sent a lovely insect-themed parcel with a bee pattern, and a dragonfly pattern! I'm looking forward to New Year when I'll have a bit of time to start a new project - the dragonfly pattern particularly has piqued my stitchy-fingers :)

Re: Something personal but very exciting for me

Well done!

Even if you don't get more hours, just keeping some, and doing regular work is brilliant news. I had depression from my teens to mid-twenties, and still have anxiety disorder, so I know the effort that goes into getting out of the house and working regularly. Keep updating us!

Best wishes

Christmas present - Waders

I spotted the Derwentwater Waders pattern a couple of months ago and thought it'd be perfect for my mum for Christmas, but started stitching it a bit later than I meant to. So tomorrow will be a full-steam stitching day! So far I've completed two of the three birds, and I've been doing the sand / se...

Re: Surface embroidery and goldwork adventures

Thanks for your encouragement all!

I'm very aware that I'm not so good at delicate, fine work, but embroidery is proving such a lovely way to play with texture and colour I'm keen to practice more.

Re: Question about Tatting

We bumped into a woman tatting on the train, on a journey up to Edinburgh a few months ago - and she does demonstrations for the Ring of Tatters! So she tried to show me (I was doing some cross stitch). Now, I'm pretty Dyspraxic, and found it near impossible to work out the movements. But she was us...

Surface embroidery and goldwork adventures

Hi all, I've been enjoying a bit of surface embroidery & goldwork - I really need to go to the V&A's Opus Anglicanum exhibition for inspiration! https://c7.staticflickr.com/6/5697/29863346614_a3efd17d1f_z.jpg Goldwork B 1 by Robin Inkysloth , on Flickr https://c6.staticflickr.com/6/5484/3115...

Re: New DMC thread

Hmm, I think I'd rather buy some more goldwork threads as I can't see on that page what exactly this is - is it a gold-wrapped core, a wire, gilt? DMC USA say "soft, flexible six-strand floss that incorporates a 24 karat gold wash" so... I don't know what that means. I'm guessing it's a f...

Re: How to get started...

If you have more patience than I do, you could do a test square to see what feels comfortable - just a small 10 x 10 or so, with two colours, and then you'll have a feel for how to get cracking.
