Re: how did you start?

I had no intention of starting a new hobby as I have so many already and have invested too much time and money in them to start a new one but I found a really cheapy kit at our equivalent of a dollar store. The kit was so cheap but had loads of thread, a needle, aida and a pattern and I gave it a go...

Re: How do you organize your floss?

I have started making my own "colour chart" for my dmc threads. I downloaded a shopping list that I got off one site and printed it out then every time I get a new thread then I just sew that colour next to the appropriate code and glue a little to the back of the page to secure it, this i...

Re: Confessions of a Cross Stitcher

Here goes... (cringe) 1. I save every pieces of thread that I cut off, if it is the length of my finger or more it goes into a pile that just keeps building... you never know when you need one tiny piece right? 2. I have stitched into the wee hours of the morning to the point where my eyes are so bl...

Stiif aida

I am sure someone must have asked this before but I cannot find a thread for it. I bought some 14 count Aida and have a nice piece in a kit. The problem is that both are very stiff and I cannot fit my hoop over it. Are there any tips or tricks to soften it to make it easier to work on? I tried steam...

Re: Can we discuss the 'jaggies'?

I have the same problem, specially when I am trying to design my own patterns. I have one large piece that I am working on and calls for loads of half and quarter stitches as the pattern has polka dots but I cant seem to make it look neat enough. I should either learn to half stitch properly or lean...

Re: hoe do you bind the edge of your fabric?

I have tried the masking tape but it leaves my edges sticky and when I pull it off then it takes loads of 'frays' with it. I was advised to use the fraycheck but since I cannot find any here I just mod-podge the edges and leave to dry. It works a treat for me and has solved many cross stitching nigh...

Re: Metallic Threads

I am still new-ish to cross stitching and splashed out on 3 skeins of dmc metallic thread. they were quite costly where I am and it took a good chunk out of my wages but I thought they were very pretty. They were a nightmare to work with and definitely a disappointment to someone who is still findin...

What a wonderful design. I love geisha's and mermaids and the colour pallet is so pretty. I cannot wait to see it when it is done.

Greetings from sunny South Africa.

Hello everyone, my name is Nasreen and I have only been cross stitching for about three years now but I am hooked. I am still learning and building up my stash. I have participated in round robins and enjoy the diversity. I am an avid swapper and crafter. I swap over on swap-bot where I have built u...
