I don't think there is any "hard and fast" rule. Even the same color-name thread will vary from skein to skein. I think that's the attraction of these threads; they are somewhat unpredictable.

In my experience ADP knobs go bad very often. Just FYI for everyone here who may be frustrated. I'm glad your problem was solved.

I have four projects at the moment. I generally spend 3 to 4 weeks on one, before taking up the other project.

A family tartan, wow! ... I always thought it odd that the finest tailors are men, and yet we consider fiber skills to be mostly feminine.

For me, I don't care how long a project takes, just that I enjoy it. Of course I am not stitching something for a special date; but just stitching for myself. I know it won't be quick, and it won't be forever, just something in between.

Hi everyone! Sorry I have not been posting lately, but I *have* been stitching from my stash. There are three works in process; I've made the most progress on a sampler called "In The Bloom" which I bought about two years ago.

I have had trouble with French notes, so I will try colonial! Thanks for the suggestion!

I greatly prefer Piecemakers over the Bohins, so I guess we're all different! They are a US company and carried by many retailers online.

I went through a SABLE "phase" last summer; for a while I bought 3-4 charts a week. Also acquired a ton of hand dyed floss. Now it's all in boxes and I enjoy looking at everything - but no more purchases for a while!

I just switched from a Bohin 26 to a Piecemakers 24 and I am so much happier! It works so well on 32 ct linen. Why didn't I try this years ago?

Maybe I got a bad batch of Bohins, I don't know, but at least the problem is solved for now.

What brand of needles (for cross stitch) have the largest eyes?

I keep trying to thread my needles, usually size 26, with a needle threader and the threaders keep breaking! And my eyesight isn't good enough to just push the thread through.
