Re: How do you organize your floss?

So it's been a few years (lol) since my earlier post on this subject, and my system's changed. When I'm working on a pattern, I keep all the bobbins for that pattern together in numerical order on one or more rings, with all the rings together in a ziploc bag. Then I make myself a folding card with ...

Small (8"x 8" or so) piece of black 32-count linen/evenweave

Hi folks, I'm looking for a remnant of evenweave as specified above. Does anyone have one floating around by any chance that you'd be willing to part with? If so, please send me a private message. Thanks so much! :D

Hurray! Birth sampler finally finished

It took me six months  but I finally finished my nephew's birth sampler: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7546/16215847411_3d380babb1_c.jpg Birth sampler by mattcrossstitches , on Flickr I loved the pattern because I was looking for something that wasn't too babyish -- something to last him -- ...

So do I -- I'll keep it on hand for when I'm doing black.

310 black floss tangles/knots more easily?

Just a question -- does anyone else feel like their black floss gets tangled up way more readily than their other floss? I've been stitching along with very few tangles at all on this current project, and then as soon as the black floss goes in, it feels like it tangles a lot more often.

Re: FINALLY finished wedding sampler

What a wonderful sampler. Just perfect. I'd love to post some in-progress pics of the birth sampler, but I don't want to spoil the surprise for my brother and sister-in-law by posting them on my Flickr account  Why not use tinypic.com or something like that? Then we can see and they can't... ...

Re: Do you cross stitch in the car?

Just got back from a trip to Ontario -- six hours by bus each way -- and got a lot of xs work done. It was occasionally difficult, especially when someone was sitting next to me or the roads were rough, but it went pretty well for me. Fairly complex project, too.

Using floss cards

I bought a few packs of those punched floss cards for projects (where you can note the symbol, number, etc., and then tie the floss on with a ring knot). Those who use them -- Do you have a system (e.g. how much floss do you cut off at one time to add to the card, what lengths, do you pull strands o...

Any recommendations for a tote bag?

Have any of you found a nice tote bag to use when you take your projects travelling? I'd love one that folds open with a plastic pocket for the pattern and room for the various tools... I saw one this week at Mary Maxim (I was travelling in Ontario) but it wasn't quite what I was looking for. Or hav...

Re: FINALLY finished wedding sampler

BTW it was SO HARD to keep the positions straight for the leaves and vines in the heart! I mde so many mistakes, and there are a few still in there I didn't want to rip everything out to correct. Finally I stitched all the big roses, taking special care to place them right, so at least those would b...

Re: FINALLY finished wedding sampler

As for the birth sampler, if you have a look at the pattern, the printed copy contains lots of helpful suggestions for customizing it. In particular, I'm using first names rather than initials, and I took the suggestion to add a border layer and go back to great-great-grandparents.

FINALLY finished wedding sampler

https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3902/14763829405_684c7ebc35_o.jpg I made this for my friends Rick and Steve in Rochester NY, who got married last year. It's Karen Kluba's Baltimore Rose Wedding Sampler . Foolishly, I started it on Aida before I realized it had eight hundred bazillion three-quarter s...

Re: How do you organize your floss?

Thus far I've only had occasion to use DMC floss. I keep them in numerical order on plastic bobbins in the DMC floss boxes... and even the DMC stickers. I'm a sucker, what can I say. (Somewhat ridiculously, one of those floss boxes, complete with 50 plastic bobbins, sells at my local Michael's for $...

Re: Confessions of a Cross Stitcher

- I never hem the fabric, these days. If it frays it frays. Besides, it never frays more than 1 or 2 blocks, and it's got like a two- or three-inch margin around it. - I'm very careful about keeping my hands clean when I work on big pieces, but I also love stitching on the metro. So I like to keep a...

Re: Shout out to the guy stitchers!

Niki: yes, indeed, I made the charts myself :) PCStitch is great for that -- just use the cartoon as an underlay and trace it with the thread colours you want. (Image conversion isn't very helpful when dealing with something like a cartoon, since you get all these weird gradients, although it can be...

Re: Unconventional X Stitch

I've created or at least remixed nearly all of the patterns I've stitched (my wedding sampler WIP is a noteworthy exception). A surprising number have been based on Internet memes or other nerdiness , while others are religious pieces for my Neopagan practice -- I'm currently planning a huge project...

I know there are a few of us on the forum so I thought I'd say hi. Apologies if this has been done a million times before... So yeah. My name is Matt and I'm a guy stitcher. Oh! And one other I hadn't added yet. This one was for my former roommate, as a kind of... well not sure what you'd call the gift you gave because you moved out so his boyfriend could move in, but it was that gift.
